I have a big event coming up which includes lights, 2 systems and numerous other things. I was wondering what you would recommend to cover up cords (extenstion, XLR, 1/4) running on the floor. Im looking at an area of at least 50 to 75 feet. Thanks

For long runs we place against the wall. For traffic cross over areas we use duct tape and cover with carpet remnants. Power and speaker cables should be wrapped around speaker stands. and not have loops that can be snagged.

For weekly gigs I have run cables above false ceilings and made permanent. Loose cables can ruin connectors and pull stuff over. I am a stickler about cables showing.

For along the walls just try to tack them up every so many feet with duct tape - color appropriate if possible. For in front of doors, tape again, or will tape the cord taught & lay over a big rubber backed mat/rug. They also make cord protectors specifically made for doorways & whatnot.
Or if possible run in the ceilieng overhead.

Thanks, the gig that Im doing is running sound and lighting in a gym. I will be on the side and lights will be in the middle of the gym. The cords will run out in the middle of the floor about 50 to 75 feet. Not sure where I would find mats to cover that far

There's that cloth tape they sell at Home Depot in a big roll like duct tape. It works great on carpets too. Just remember to FIRST lift the tape up separately while holding down the cable when removing. Otherwise if you pull up the cable with the tape it wraps and sticks itself around the cable and is a pain to remove.

That is exactly what I use also, I found them at Menards in 10 ft length.

I would stick to several 10 foot ones as I think that length would be easier to work with.(just my opinion)

Then tack to floor with duct tape.

Whatever you do, please do not use the duct tape. Duct tape leaves residue behind and I don't think you want to damage the wall. Make sure you get a roll of a good gaffer's tape, which you can find online. They do not leave residue and it's what most of the people in the industry use because it's the right tape for the job.

I suppose you would be right Eben, especially since he is running cords across a gymnasium floor. I guess I was thinking how I use it on partyroom carpet or bar room floors.
