I've been running music from my lap top through an amp and Yamaha speakers. There's some static noise that I can't get rid of. I'm using a Monster cable. Any suggestion?

Static doesn't sound right. Do you mean hum?

Directly from the laptop to the amp? I am not surprised. A mixer helps to insulate that, though it doesn't always work.

Lots of times hum is introduced from the television connection and goes away when you unplug the cable or satellite box.

Try using a three to two prong adapter(50 cents or less) on your computer. If that works, then you may want to buy a gound loop isolater, if you don't feel safe with the adapter. Also run the computer on battery, and see if that gets rid of it....

Hey Cali,

I had the same problem the other day and I double clicked on the volume control icon (In the tray) and muted the mic volume control. It did the trick and is now as quiet as can be. Easy enough to try whatta have to loose.

Is it a white noise like a tape hiss? After I finally got rid of the buzz from the laptop charger by lifting the ground on my powered speakers, I found that I was left with this noise. Ironically, after replacing my TRS cables from the mixer to the speakers with unbalanced cables, it went away. Who'd a thunk it! Seems like everything you thought you knew about reducing noise is wrong when it comes to laptops.
