That's just silly!
Why spend money on something you're not willing to promote?
Makes absolutely no sense to me.

Wow ! He didn't even know how stupid that sounds. I don't want karaoke to be associated with my venue, but I want you to continue here. That's like saying I don't want to be associated with serving food, but I'm a restaurant.
No wonder you were having trouble.
It's hard to believe anyone would shoot themselves in the foot like that, but I guess it takes all kinds.

Exactly. He wanted lot's of people but didn't want anyone to know it was there...and this attitude spilled over to the staff, who exhibited it to the CUSTOMERS. Just brilliant....

Joe
Don't worry about it.
The rumor is ...... that guys sister is an only child. Sounds plausible to me considering the brilliance of his plan for karaoke!

Again, thanks to all for your support and advice! The good news is that from now until the second week in January when I start the new venue, I can go sing and party at my friends show!

This isn't as wacky as it sounds. You don't mention what entertainment or attractions this venue has on other nights of the week. But it's possible the owner doesn't want to degrade that "image" by promoting karaoke. Let's face it, karaoke is a very "downscale" form of entertainment. Some people love it, but your average person is probably going to have a negative reaction to it. The popular take on karaoke is that it's either bad off-key singers (like American Idol tryouts) or over-the-top cheesy vocalists. If the venue on other nights is promoting bands or its food or its classy martini menu...I can see why they would like to have karaoke for their existing regulars, but not to promote it to "outside" people.

Really? News to me, since all of my venues are upscale restaurant bars. It IS a perception though, and yes, you described the owner's attitude perfectly, but it doesn't change a thing. If he felt that way, why bring in Karaoke? The answer is actually two fold, as I recently found out.
1) The money
2) I recently found out that their Fridays were actually WORSE than my Tuesdays. They are trying to sell the place, and wanted a busy night for display to perspective buyers.
Dan, now matter how it's sliced, if people don't know of the show, they won't know to come. Also, if they DO come, and are made to feel uncomfortable, they won't stay.
The reason the Fridays are bad? Strangely enough, the DJ said Quote: " The customers say they feel like the staff is just waiting for them to leave" Unquote.
Apparently they have all kinds of attitude problems there- not just karaoke related. A brilliant man once said ( Ron White?) " Ya can't fix stupid"

Very strange that a bar wouldn't want singers to find out about a karaoke show. Do you have a web site, Joe, where people can find out about your other shows? Do you have pictures of the venues on your site, if you have one? A my space page perhaps? Do these other upscale gigs that you do feel the same way about keeping it a secret that they have karaoke? I tried to Google Chartreuse Karaoke but couldn't get much more than a phone number. Can you post a link to your show information?

I'll bite my tongue for the most part, or more accurately, sit on my "fingys", but I found it no problem too.

Please post a link to where his shows are listed. None of the links that came up for me had any such information. If you would have clicked on any of the links that you are referring to, which you obviously didn't, you would have found out that the only thing available is a phone number.

Glad to see my two favorite axe grinders are alive and well this morning.
This time you two outsmarted yourselves.....unless your Google is different than mine. Maybe while you're sitting on your "fingys", you're googling the wrong thing.

I did manage to find one venue in a NJ karaoke listing site that WAS NOT among the links that popped up in the Google search. It was for a place called Jalapeno's. Is that still a valid link to an existing show? I remember Joe posting that he did 5 to 6 shows per week and I was just trying to find out where they were in case I wanted to drop in on one of them, like Cueball recently did.
But of course the Witch & her parrot have to come in with their snide comments, acting as if they found something that isn't really there and I was just too inept to find it myself.
PLEASE HELP an old man out and point me in the right direction to find the page that gives the details of his show schedule and not just a link to his phone number. You two are just so much smarter than I must be so PLEASE PLEASE HELP.

I am more comfortable using YAHOO as my search engine. To find Joe, I tried several things. First I tried checking here under the Club Directory Search. I had a problem with that, because I did not know what part of NJ to look under (so that was useless for me). I tried a few choices (from the drop down choices) which I knew to be parts of Northern NJ, but came up empty. Then I went to YAHOO. I tried doing a search for Joe Chartreuse, and came up with some sites that just listed KJs and DJs. I found 1 or 2 of those sites where Joe described his services and his phone number was listed, but none that listed his specific shows. The next thing I tried was Joe Chartreuse Karaoke, and the results showed me some of the same sites, but I got a few more. This was the URL that enabled me to find Joe on Tuesday night....
http://www.karaokelistings.com/venues.a ... New+Jersey
Now, not for nothing, but to those who just had to take the time to attack, wouldn't it have been easier to just supply "Broooose" with a straight answer and let your "fingys" go on their merry way???? I know that you've had your little squabbles back and forth, but sometimes it just pays to take the high road.

Thank you for the information, Cueball. There was actually a link to his myspace page at the site you posted a link to. The only problem is that he only listed his Tuesday night show on his myspace page and that is the one he just quit, if I'm not mistaken. There were a couple of other shows in the list that claimed to be hosted by Joe but many of the links on that particular site are no longer valid so it's hard to be sure about the information on that site. I would think that Joe's own myspace page would be the most up to date source of information and it onl;y had the one show listed there. Maybe Joe will let us all know where his other venues are and how we can access the information.
The two "ladies" need a nemesis to rally against because they must be sick & tired of having to fluff everyone else. I allow them to be their true selves so everyone can see them for who they REALLY are....two very jealous angry women.

I have never looked at myspace.com. As for the links provided in the other website being invalid, I don't know. I will usually check for an address and phone number of the place listed, and then call to verify if they still have Karaoke. From what I've seen in the past, like most websites (that provide lists of this sort), they don't usually keep it updated very often.

There was certainly no attack on my part, but I daresay the opposite is true.
Not sure why we're getting the blame for it.
I'll choose to ignore it so as not to incite yet another highjack.
As for the answer, I googled "chartreuse karaoke" and got this site, the ninth listed and the last on the page:
http://www.myspace.com/joechartreuse
He asked for a myspace page and there it is. Not so hard to do.
Not sure why his Google didn't work, but mine certainly did.

I certainly don't know exactly the way Google works but I checked it yesterday and Joe's myspace page certainly didn't pop up as the ninth hit on the list. It probably hadn't been hit in so long that it was probably way down on the list. It probably got bumped up closer to the top because I had found it late last night due to Cueball's help, and that is why it is higher on the list today.
That being said, his myspace page only listed the show that he most recently dropped. According to another thread on this forum, he said that he did 20+ shows per month. I was looking for information on the other ones so I could drop in and surprise him like Cueball had done. I guess that surprise is out of the bag now.
