I'm sorry to hear that Scott.

You were dedicated to help them make it work. You did what you could in the small amount of time you had. :D

If they don't have the money to pay a KJ in December, they are really going to be struggling next month all the way to President's Day weekend. That's when things really slow down. I would be surprised if they are even open come spring.

I"m sorry for your loss. But it may not be much of one. I hope you can replace this job with a place with deeper pockets than that.

Scott, this one isn't your fault. Sounds like the venue was already tanking and thought (as many bar owners do) that karaoke was a quick and cheap fix.

Whenever I take on a new venue, I only do so with a 4-week contract. If they don't cancel at the end of Week 4, the contract automatically continues for 13 weeks. We renegotiate after Week 13.

In my pitch I explain at the end of a month they should have a good idea whether karaoke will catch on in their venue. Anything less isn't giving it a fair chance for the word to get out and to build a crowd. And I don't want to put the word out to my following unless I'm guaranteed 4 weeks.

Oh and if they try to cancel anyway? I have a signed contract for the full amount (plus any collection/attorney/court costs) and have no problem taking it down to Small Claims court to collect.
