hi Crowbar welcome aboard

there are lots of ways to set up and it all depends on how serious you are about doing so.

I started some time ago with my peavy mixer amp and old shure sm58 plugging into a soundblaster live card and running cool edit pro. (was running a community radio station at the time and had the software to record ads and record and mix pre-recorded shifts.

Then I moved onto a small unpowered mixer which took less room and had better sound (still with my old shure that I had bought 2nd hand)

Then to a condenser mic and a pre-amp plugged straight into an m-audio fasttrack external sound module which is what I use today.

nowadays you can get mics that plug in via a usb port and give great sound, which of course means there is no need for a mixer or a preamp.

Audacity is software that is good to record with and its free :)

It depends on the extremes of how good you want to go!

You can connect with a simple $5 microphone, or go to a pod-cast type of mic.

Do a simple search on Ebay for USB Microphone, and you'll come up with a LOT of different alternatives!

This is a mic I've been interested in trying!!!

If you have RockBand or Guitar Hero on tour that comes with a USB mic, you could just use that as well!!!

I listened to two of your songs and you definately have talent. M-Audio sells a USB Microphone that comes bundled with the software that you will need to record on a computer. I am a novice Karaoke singer and I have been reading this site for about a year now. When I first started acquiring my Karaoke gear, I bought a laptop and ran Tricerasoft's free cd+g player on it. I read the words from the computer screen and listened from the audio output jack with headphones. I then bought a used Mackie DFX-12 mixer on e-bay and a shure beta 57a microphone, so I could learn how to sing with a microphone and use reverb on my vocals to make me sound better. I then bought a used Yamaha AW16G audio workstation on ebay. The "G" is a mixer that has all of the bells and whistles to record, edit and produce audio cd's. I recored my first song last week on the "G". It sounded good, but I need to improve my techniques a little bit more. My input level was too low and I have to crank up the volume on my stereo to hear the song. The cheapest route for you, IMO, is to use a computer playing tricerasoft's (free) cd+g player with a USB microphone, and record using audacity (free). You can download individual cd+g songs from the internet. If you become a member of Karaoke-singles.com you can download individual Sound Choice songs for two dollars a song. There are many other sites, but the quality of the music varies considerably. You have inspired me to post a song on this site. Thanks and keep singing.

It gets all the power it needs from the USB.

I have thought long and hard about getting this unit. It comes with a podcaster kit with a mic filter, holder, etc... really good for blogging, radio shows, etc... but the stats on it seem like it would make a terrific singing mic.

Maybe Santa this year will make one in his snowy forge! LOL!

Vicki, Axe is selling them online for CAD$85.53 + tax = CAD$89.81

At current exch. rates, that would equate to around NZD$130 with free delivery to your door in January!
