Well, quite frankly, I generated the topic and do not see relevance to the question asked in major portions of your response (in this particular case). I do not claim to be the authority nor do I claim to be the judge of whats important, however, I asked the question and you did not answer my question. If the goal of a tech question forum is to find answers to questions, and you do not properly answer the question.....well it is what it is.

Thanks for posting this question Robbie, this is what this forum should be interested in, and thanks to MOST of the responses on the technical aspects of speakers. I personally will be looking forward to more posts of this type. I've learned more on this post than I've learned on alot of the foolishness of late. Although it tried to seep into this thread also. I applaud the HELPFUL guys for not getting off subject, and ignoring the HELPLESS CHATTER.

If you read what you posted it falls under anything else.

As a matter of fact I've scratch built several speakers with these details in mind to very good effect with karaoke audiences mind you, but to take it from experience eliminating difficulties and audio issues is the real ticket. Saving time headaches and trouble is worth it. Believe me, I've been there.

Which cable connection and why?:Speakon
Powered or passive and why?:Powered

Watts per channel:about 300 or more for karaoke and dance
Size: 10" 12" or 15" 12s for karaoke 15s for dance
Qty:1 for karaoke crowd of 50 minimum.
Monitor:
Brand: Name brand with good reputation
Model: many of this type to choose from - use your ears not your eyes

Lon, as usual, pretty much posted a gold standard- with one exception: I am a firm believer in 3- way speakers for karaoke, where midrange is king. So much so that I have modified several otherwise great 2 ways (EVs).

I prefer passive speakers, preferably 15" min in a decent sized venue. I don't use thumpers for karaoke, but on the occasion that I prostitute myself for straight DJ work, I do, and they're powered.

Passives give me more headroom and easier control.

8 ohms with an 800w rms min is a preference, but I have a few systems, and have speakers that run as little as 300w rms as well.

Can you elaborate some more on the modified EV's? (drivers, crossovers and outboard gear used for adjusting the speaker sound if any)

I'll admit the best full range sound I've heard were 12" two or three way passives without subs. I won't say which. A lot of karaoke recordings aren't that high quality so it seems to me like overkill. Setting the gear up and wrestling with balances while trying to maintain some clarity, liveliness and intelligibility of vocals seems to be enough to for me deal with. I don't like compressing everything. Not to mention there are other setup issues. Maybe I'm missing something please enlighten me.

Not really. I'm an engineer who owned an electronic component distributorship, thus having access to a lot of raw materials. Everything hand-made- no brand names. For full specs and instruction, you are better off going on line.
