I imported mp3 backing tracks that are 128 at 16 bit, 44.1 kHz into both Cubase and Audacity only to experience hiss instead of backing track music using the Lexicon Alpha. Since I have been configured for all output and input though the Lexicon Alpha, I figured I'd re-configure the output ONLY to come through my onboard sound card. Found something strange - The sound card does not have the hissing or poor audio sound output as did the Lexicon output. Keep in mind that that is output using the headphone output only. Not using monitors/speakers on the rear "outs" at all right now. (Don't have any yet.) That is, the Lexicon "headphone" output (poor/hissing) when clicking record, verses plugging the headphones into the audio/speaker "out" on the PC sound card - works fine. Only difference is, now I can't hear my voice in the mic. I am assuming this is due to input and output configured to 2 seperate sound devices. (Output from the PC sound card/ input to the Lexicon Alpha.) However, the program IS getting input from the mic as I can actually record vocals to a backing track. I just can't hardly hear myself singing with the headphones on and the audio backing track playing. I would have tried mic input to the PC sound card but it is XLR. But then I would have purchased the Lexi for nothing almost.
Could this be a driver issue for the Lexicon? There's only one driver installed to choose in the VST (device setup). Its the duplex one that came on the disk with the Lexicon Alpha. Sorry if I type too much to have to read, but I'm trying to provide as much detail as possible to be understood in this problem. Thanks for reading it all. HELP!

Not sure, I haven't experienced that problem. Where are your levels set at?

Assiming you are speaking of the Cubase LE4 program, they are all set at default locations. As far as the Lexicon, the mic knob is sitting at about 2 o'clock maybe 3. The monitor and output levels are staright up 12 o'clock. Output may be closer to 2 o'clock.
I'm just thinking that I should have no problem configuring the Lexi to be my sol sound device when interfacing the desktop/laptop. But it is just not providing me output properly. At least not from the headphones output for recording.

Just notices (and remembered) something else. When I installed the Lexicon software from the disk and followed instructions on configuration there was a part as follows:
Click on Device Setup, then click on VST Audio System. In the ASIO Driver drop down menu, choose "ASIO Alpha". Well, when I configured this, there was only one driver available to choose and it was the one called "ASIO DirectX Full Duplex Driver". So this of course is the one I had to select. Just figured the software had an update to the manuel I was following. But just a few minutes ago I was looking at the configuration instructions in this manuel again and the "ASIO DirectX Full Duplex Driver" was listed in the drop-down menu along with the "ASIO Alpha".
I'm at work right now, but I will re-load the drivers and see if this "ASIO Alpha" driver will show up as a choice in the menu. If it does, I will configure to this driver and try again. I'll post my results once I've completed this. Thanks
