I have a PA system already- Crate PA 6. I know to stay away from the all in one deals. I think all I need is a karaoke player with dvd and CD+G. Is this correct?
I want to be able to have the words on my tv and sing along with it. Can anyone recommend something/ or whatever I need to karaoke at home under $500 that will work with my PA system? I really would like something that will record also. Thanks so much.

In that case, a computer is really the best option. It will record, play CDG disks and MP3+G files, and burn the resulting recording onto a CD. There are laptops for less than $500.00 now that will do the trick.
You may even already have one, which will make it even cheaper.

Thanks for replying. So if i get a laptop then what kind of cord do I need to get to plug it into my PA system? Does the laptop have to be able to go online?
Can you refer me to some reasonable places to get the CD+G's?
Merry Christmas!

I do have a desktop computer already. I'll have to ck to see if it plays cd+Gs. Again, if you could tell me how to hook my desktop (if that would work) up to my PA system that would be great. That would really save me some money. So all i would need then are the CD+Gs. I already have a microphone too.

It won't have software by default. But for $40.00 (free for download and try) you can get Winamp Pro, Pacemaker, and the MP3+G plugin. That will play downloaded MP3+G format files. For another $40.00, you can get Power CDG Rip+Burn software from PowerKaraoke. That would allow you to "rip" your CDG disks and convert them. Another $40.00 will get you Siglos Player to allow you to play them directly. (Some people will mention that there are some free rippers out there, but they are not as good nor as tolerant of different CD drives. I recommend not wasting your time with them.) You just get a cable to go from sound card to PA system stereo channel (probably 7/8 or 9/10 on that PA):

Ok. thanks so much Karl for your feedback. I appreciate it. I know you mentiond Win Amp pro, Pacemaker, MP3+ etc. So I should get all of those programs you mentioned (or pick one)-- You have to remember I don't know a thing about setting up my computer for karaoke.
I just want a simple straightforward program to play karaoke music with the words on my monitor to start with. Later I can add the fancy stuff.
I am new to downloading karaoke style music. In the past I always had a disc with a a cheap karoake machine. Do you recommend any reasonable sites to download the karaoke music from? I guess its similar to downloading music I assume.
Regarding plugging my PA sytem into my computer. I have no clue where the sound card is. Guess I can call Dell.
THank you so much. I am getting excited about my computer being my karaoke machine so i can belt it out at home.

You need all three programs if you want to go the winamp method. For $25 you can get all of that in one program, JustKaraoke. Then all you need is audacity which is a free simple recording program that will be good for recording. You might have to purchase a compatable cd drive to go with powerkaraoke. As to download sites there are several out there.

Consider KaraFun, then. Quote: I am new to downloading karaoke style music. In the past I always had a disc with a a cheap karoake machine. Do you recommend any reasonable sites to download the karaoke music from? I guess its similar to downloading music I assume.
You can buy it at tricerasoft.com -- if you buy a hundred-pack you can download 100 songs for $100.00. There are other sites that people will recommend. Quote: Regarding plugging my PA sytem into my computer. I have no clue where the sound card is. Guess I can call Dell.
Usually it is the green connector on the back of a desktop, or the one with
the little headphone symbol around the edge of a laptop.
Good luck!

ok great. I found Pacemaker on winamp but I can't find MP3+G plug in on the winamp site. There is a drop down for plug ins.. but its sooo long and there doesn't appear to be a search. If you have a link on that one I'd be happy.

Hey all
I have everything downloaded (winamp, pacemaker, mp3+G) and also some karaoke songs. However, I don't have a clue on how to get them to play now. ERRRRRRRRRR!
I see the song lineup and i am double clicking on them,,, but nothing happens. It just shows a little box with all the songs info.
Can anyone tell me how to acutally play a karaoke download on Winamp (the free downloaded version)? Thanks so much for your help.
Tracy

They have to be unzipped (well not really, but that is another download and some more settings to change) Any way once they are unzipped you should be able to just double click on the mp3 file or load the mp3 files in your playlist and play away.

get autokdj from www.autokdj.com which ctually comes with all the plugins including the one needed to play the zip files. It can make accessing your karaoke songs much easier and works through the media library of winamp.
