If you have a younger crowd, say 27 and under mostly, I would say a must have disc would be any disc with Champagne Supernova by Oasis. The Monster hits version is decent although the ending isn't true to the original. Why? Well if you can find someone to sing it somewhat well, it always seems to get the crowd going, must be the " We were getting high " part, not that I think all young people get high. Like other people have said though, even this isn't a must have disc if someone isn't going to sing it.

I have sang that song on the Riverwalk in San Antonio, a cruise ship, in Hawaii and in Cozumel and it always seems to evoke a response from the crowd. Just MHO, your mileage may vary.

By the way there are some other great songs on that Monster disc ( can't remember them all off hand ) and they are all good versions. Rudy.

Perfect example, i've had this song both on PHM & SC & can count on 1 hand in 15 years the amount of times it's been sung. I could say with my crowd (20's-30's avg) as it is today, must have's would be primarily anything Pantera, Sublime, A Perfect Circle, System Of A Down, Green Day.

It was pretty popular at my gigs in Portland... goes to show you that despite only being separated by a few hours... the crowds were different enough to reflect that!

In the three years I've been hosting karaoke to the under 30 age group the only Oasis song that has been done much at all is Wonderwall. I have Champagne Supernova but I can't recall it ever being sung.

My under 30 guys line up much more with Lonnie's. Also must haves for this bunch I'll add Weezer (especially Hashpipe, Say It Ain't So) and RHCP (especially Under The Bridge, Californication.) I could add more but those jump right out.

I've also hosted for this age group outside my home room occasionally, like that restaurant employee Xmas party last week, and when I do the two songs that always get done sometime during the night for sure are Santeria (guys) and Bytch (ladies.) These two are the most consistently sung songs year in year out...both in my home room and out. Before I started hosting karaoke I was barely aware of Santeria but I've heard it so much now that I could do the whole thing from memory if I ever had to.

But I'll pass on that one.

I guess I've been lucky in all the places I have sang it. Yeah Lonny all those bands you mentioned do well in our venue also, if they are sang well. Pantera being a Texas band always does well here, and not to brag but my bro does it better than anyone I've ever heard karaoke or cover band.

You didn't mention how Champagne went over, I doubt you would remember but I was curious. Rudy.

Bill I forgot about Weezer, yes they get done nightly. Say It Ain't So, Island In The Sun, Hash Pipe are pretty much nightly, Pork & Beans, Undone are fairly regular as well.

As far as Oasis, Don't Look Back In Anger is done more than anything else. Champagne Supernova is an occasional song.

but can anyone throw out another collection or even a single disc (w/ number) out there that you just think is phenomenal! An absolute must have, whether it be because you just love it or everything on it gets sung alot!

Here's a few discs that are kind of off the beaten path that I couldn't live without when hosting to my under 30 group:

BHK307. All the Big Hitz discs are good but this one has even more regularly sung songs on it than usual... My Humps, Hollaback Girl, Don't Cha, Beverly Hills, Scars, Because Of You, Behind Those Hazel Eyes, Listen To your Heart, Breathe... all done all the time in my room to this day.

SC8918. Every song I think has been sung off this all- No Doubt- Gwen Stafani disc. It gets used nightly.

SC2289 and 2301. All Metallica. I hope Sound Choice has a more cost effective packaging of these tracks by now but I bought them both a couple of years ago to have them all. And it was a good idea. Regular use.

Legends 129. This Creed- RHCP disc is a real cost effective way of getting these tracks. Quality is good on this one. As we all know that is not always the case with Legends.

SC8662. Hemorrhage In My Hands, Last Resort, Mudshovel, Aenima, Judith, Stupify, Broken Home... I get these sung regularly. And most of the others occasionally. One of those extremely rare Sound Choice mixed artist discs that was wisely packaged.

Unfortunately most of my single disc purchases have yielded only one or two songs that get sung much. Which is why I download a lot now that I've gone computer. But here's one that I have to list: PHMR0110 because it has two of the signature songs of the home room on it... Down With The Sickness and Bodies. Indispensable to me.

IF
you can find a copy, Sound Choice 8148 would be considered a must have IMO. At least 9 songs on that disc get done on a weekly basis - Smells Like Teen Spirit & About A Girl - Nirvana, Plush & Big Empty - Stone Temple Pilots, Low - Cracker, Black Hole Sun - Soundgarden, When I Come Around - Green Day, Daughter - Pearl Jam, MMM MMM MMM MMM - Crash Test Dummies.
It is pulled for play minimum 2 times per night.

That's why I said IF you can find a copy. It's been discontinued for years, but Black Hole Sun IS available through their custom site as is a few other SOundgarden tunes.

Wow Lon, I need to see if I can stumble upon that disc! Thats like a who's who of my favorite artists. I wouldn't even care if no one sung it, it could be valuable for personal use. Now that I'm thinking about it, I dont think I have Black Hole Sun, and I'm now personally outraged at myself. I hope this topic has helped any of yall (Alabama speak) because it is helping me.

I'm pretty secure in what my crowd here would want, In my experience anyway, you could probably get by with a top 200 requested songs anywhere I've ever been. 70% of em get sung everywhere you go, its just which 70 % varies. And of course a few oddballs and current hits.

Strange thing is, I actually sung Champagne Supernova on a Carnival cruise in March now that someone said that. Oasis, particularly those two hits get done here often. I know I actually have wanted a good version of the Wallflowers now that I think of it. Anyone heard a real good version of 6th Ave. Heartache, One Headlight, or Heroes?
