How long did it take you to rip your MP3+G files from disc onto your hard drive?

I am ripping my collection of 870 CDGs onto my hard drive using the utility that comes with CompuHost, and it is taking me FOREVER!!! At this rate, I think it will take me at least 2 more months. I'm ripping them as zipped MP3+G files at 4X speed and 192 bit rate to try to keep high quality files with no lyric jumble.

Any tricks to speed up this process, or do I just have to power through??

I ripped with TWO machines at the same time. My fiance's pc (may she rot in ... ) and my home pc.

But you're right, it DOES take a long time. I did like ten or so discs a night on each PC. and while one was ripping, I was relabeling the tracks. I stored them finally on an external drive and went from PC to PC at the end of the night.

But even if you figure ripping ten a night... with one PC, that's seventy a week. That's 300 in a month.

Was one of the first ripping cdg's with Cavs encoder and decoder. In fact there was no info on the web or forums other than Cavs with any info. No naming conventions had to type in every artist and title for both cdg and mp3. No zipping.

This was done with Win98SE and 300-450 cpus and 256 MB ram. Fighting scratched and dirty cd's it took forever. After awhile I had about 300 cd's and then it turned into a project. I never got so tired of one thing in my life.

At one time I was using cd clone to put image files on the hard drive then loading into a false Daemon Cd drive. Download Daemon and in properties Give it Yamaha brand and crw8424s for the model number. (to read cdg's) It is way faster ripping that way.

BTW I have worn out 3 or 4 Plextors over the years. Now wth software such as KJ Rip-n-zip and if you have a current KJPRO database all are named automattically Years ago I would have paid $500 for that.

Like Matt I was using 2 machines as well, for 900+ discs, took about 3 months (not sitting on the computer 24 hours - about 6-8 hours per day).

But why 4X  Are you using a non CDG drive (Deinterleave) and slow speed is the only option for a clear graphic?

With nostalgia I present one of my old web pages that is prob 8 years old and modified maybe 3-4 years ago. Cabaret-karaoke.com was my first web site and it is hard to believe how many years I have maintained and changed it. This is a trip down memory lane but the info still applies. It has received thousands of hits and helped many rip cdg's. This page for years was on the first page of google and was getting somtimes 50 hits a day.

At that time I had 2 sites .com and .info so most links wont work and the the jpg wont show. (this was .info) Otherwise I could update and all the info would still apply..

When I say I was one of the pioneers I am not joking or acting.. I think the first rip was 98 when did cdg's come out?

In answer to the post How long does it take? The rest of your life..

Are you using the latest CDGRip V2? They just recently released it! On my system, it is MUCH faster and includes excellent error correction. The previous version only supported one of my three drives, while CDGRip V2 now supports ALL of them. I tested it against Powerkaraoke and it produced the same quality rips for free.

You can get it at www.karaokeware.com , give it a try if you haven't already.
