Hey everyone, today I tried running the lyrics thru my 42" plasma with svideo. Nothing shows up. My main monitor for the lyrics is hooked up via VGA on both ends. What do I need to do to get the lyrics on my tv as well?

Using a converter is the only way I know of, and is the way I use:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/produ ... 1&format=2

As far as I know there are no graphics cards that do three outputs (notebook, monitor, television). That's not to say they don't exist, just that I haven't seen those reported here in use for karaoke.

P.S. One fellow thought he had it working, but then later posted that he wasn't able to duplicate it (triplicate it?).

I'm not the computer KJ expert here, but just thinking about it, I would assume whatever line-out you are using (VGA, s-vid, whatever), there should be an adapter for that connection with some type of splitter. Most likely something with your line in and multiple lines out, RCA, cable coax, or the like, so you could feed both monitors from one signal.

Yep, see Mckyj57's post above yours.

Ok, so I just received the vga converter in the mail. I can hook this to the laptop by using a female/male vga cable. Now I can't hook this to my monitor as the vga coming out of the converter is female, the vga connector on my monitor is female and both cables I have (including the one that came with the converter) are female/male.
So I thought I need to go to Radio Shack and buy a vga female/female cable. I kept the converter hooked to the laptop via the vga cable. I tried take svideo out of the converter to svideo on the plasma tv. I changed my input on my tv thru video one, two, and three (that's all it has) and the tv still doesn't display the laptop screen.

Am I right about the vga female/female? And how do I get the tv to show the laptop screen?

Just a quick thought but have you changed the tuner or input on the TV to coincide with the VGA input? Never mind I see now that you tried that.

Before you go buy another cable...it should work with s-video just as you say you have tried, if it doesn't work with s-video, the new vga cable isn't going to work either.
I am assuming you have your laptop setup for extended display so my guess would be it is a setting on the TV, maybe setting it over to DVD, or S-Video, but then you said you only have 3 choices and you tried them all so at the moment I am lost.
Hopefully someone will have the answer for you.

I have the same converter, the converter hooks to the laptop with the (male to male) cable that it came with. Then you have to make sure that you connect the POWER CABLE to the usb port on the computer. Then you need a (male to male) vga coming from the converter to the first monitor, or tv, then you can use the s-video cable to connect to the second monitor,or tv. If the tv doesn't work with the s-video cable, use the rca (yellow) cable, and hook it to the component video (in) on the tv.

srnitynow, thanks. One problem solved, another popped up. Actually two. I didn't have the usb hooked up. I hooked that up and then used vga to the monitor and s-video to the tv (both coming out of the converter. Monitor works, tv does sort of. It's black and white and has some tv settings laid over the lyrics. I can't figure out how to get rid of those or make the graphics in color. Also, I don't have enough usb coming out of my laptop for the software dongle, converter, sound card and external hard drive. Can I buy a usb device that multiplies itself? Merry Christmas!

I would first try the channel on the tv, maybe it is on the wrong channel for the s-video input, if that doesn't work, disconnect the s-video, and connect to the tv via the rca cable(yellow) to a component in on the tv, just like you were hooking a video game. Also, I've seen what is called an external usb (hub) that adds multiple connections to your computer. I haven't tried one, but this MIGHT be what you're looking for. Look on TIGERDIRECT, I saw one there for 20 bucks. I think you might be able to get them at Walmart also. Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year to you and your family.

Thanks. I actually figured out the black and white thing on my own. There are two small switches on the converter. I flipped both of them and it went to color. A little blurry but maybe because I bought a cheap cable? Also it still had control settings overlaid on the tv screen that are so big, they cover the lyrics. Can't figure out how to get them off.

Merry Christmas all!

The 2 switches on the converter are for PAL and NTSC I think you might try just using one or the other for your color. The control settings displayed on the screen should be able to be removed by hitting the display button on your tv remote. Hope this helps.

Out of the country so I can't look at my home tv but I did try that, it's really weird because the settings almost looked like a shadow. They don't go away.

Does anyone know of a UK store that sells these convertors or even a US store who will ship to the UK?
The only place I can find them is ebay, but only from sellers in China which can sometimes be a bit of a risk and I'd get it quicker if I swam there & collected it.

I'd appreciate any suggestions. :)

I prefer using a more simplistic S-Video to RCA connection. No boxes, no switches... it just converts the four pins on the S-video to rca.

http://www.svideo-rca.com/

That site talks about the conversion piece.

They SHOULD be able to mail them to the UK.

Thanks Knightshow. Unfortunately, I can't use that cable because my laptop doesn't have S-Video out.

From that I assume you are using a desktop with a dual video board installed and has s-video out. The main or primary display has your desktop with all the icons and the graphics are a small screen with your GUI of your hosting program. The graphics for the stage or singers is from the secondary display usually s-video or RCA comp video out.

In some cases the computer needs to be booted up with the secondary monitor hooked up. It has to be activated in the display properties to extend the graphics on it. See video.

Do you have a s-video output? Does the s-video on your plasma work with other sources?

For proper analyisis we need the make and model of the hardware involved and a good description of how it is hooked up.

Download and unzip. Play in Media Player.

Just back in the country. I was able to use the rca converter box to hook up to 3 other tv's while I was gone with no problem. It's just my plasma that shows settings in shadow(over the karaoke lyrics screen) when I try to hook up. It will bed a couple days before I can try again as I am very busy. Thanks for the help.
