Dan13601 @ Thu Dec 25, 2008 10:20 am wrote: Good Idea... probably anyone new should just use search engines instead of this forum, since this forum is a JOKE. You make a good case for promoting the FORUM in general. You, once again, made my original case... you guys are only posting to get a post in.. not answering any questions.
Bet your Karaoke shows are all about how much voice time you get as well... instead of what it is supposed to be about, letting singers sing. I want to thank the 2 people who honsetly did reply, and the one I got off line. The other "power posters", can keep replying and posting one liners throughout the forum to see who gets the biggest scrore!!!
Jeesh...
Knightshow? Why is is funny that I have asked this qustion previously??? I got no answers before, and still did not get any... The FUNNY thing is that you are wasting your time replying again & again when you clearly have no answer or were not involved in the discussion... you inserted yourself into it just so you could be a part of it... once again; to post for the sake of it. Now that's FUNNY!!
Here is my opinion on this. As you know, forums are paid for by the people who runs it and considered a private. It's those people who sets policy and the culture. That being said, every forum has it's own unique personality and people.
You did ask a legitimate question at this forum. However, just joining a forum and asking a question doesn't make you "equal" in some people's eyes. When I join a forum, I usually read through a bunch of postings before posting my own to figure out what the culture of the forum is. Believe me, you are not the first to get this kind of response, mostly people come here ask a question that has been asked million times before and got the same answers in the past. They don't bother doing search or looking for answer. They expect this forum to be a vehicle for them to satisfy themselves. I am not saying you did that, just something to keep in mind.
These people spend a lot of time helping others out and it is a community. Think of this way. If you went to a local meeting of KJs for the first time. They have been meeting for 20 years and they have a unwritten rules and customs. You show up for the first time, would you try to run the meeting, specially not knowing about those rules? I wouldn't think so. I think we hide too much behind the anonymity of the web and behave inappropriately when it's not needed.
I think if you didn't start the negative comments right away and be humble, I think you may have gotten lot better responses. Just a thought.

Guys, I believe his animosity was directed at me. For whatever reason he didn't like my question.
Fair enough.
But please, let's not encourage him to continue by giving him more to feed off of.
Yes, he's copping a MAJOR attitude. We all know where that gets you.
Dan, you can attract far more flies with honey than you will with vinegar. When you start attatcking, especially when it's not warranted, expect that people will get up in arms.
You still haven't answered my question, nor have you bothered to reply to me, save for your first post that was on the rather nasty side.
If you don't wish to, fair enough, but please don't jump on everyone else. They are only trying to be fair and as you said, some HAVE helped you. I wouldn't expect a whole lot of that in the future, even from those who are the most helpful, if you continue to spout nastiness on this forum.
As for the rest of you, please, let's just take the high road and ignore it.
No need to spew more nastininess, no matter how much we may think it's deserved.
As Ghandi said: "An eye for an eye only makes the whole world blind".
It's one thing I've learned. If you ignore it, it DOES eventually go away. (the nastiness).
Oh, and MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!!!!

Ha! You don't know anything about me OR my shows. The only down time between singers is the time it takes for someone to get out of their seat and hit the mic. Even then, I have music playing, not some canned pre-recorded message.
But just to be fair and answer your OP, since you are whining about not getting any help:
I hear Tom Hanks does a lot of voiceovers, give him a call. This advice is about as helpful and detailed as your post.

To return to the OP's question. I suggest that you get in touch with MorganLeFey who posted above. She does voice-overs professionally and if ever there was a "come-hither" attention getting voice, it's hers. The Kiwi accent is is dead sexy.

Well going back to the original question:
Why would you want someone ELSE's voice. Just do your own jingles over the mic directly!!
Can't come up with anymore on your own? Is this a problem of YOUR OWN LACK OF CREATIVITY???
Why are you doing jingles at ALL??? Just one more thing to take up time making them and then taking even more time AT THE SHOW working them in and coordinating them between singers.
Or are your shows SO SLOW AND POORLY ATTENDED that you have PLENTY OF TIME to fool around with between singer jingles?????
THE WORLD WONDERS!!!

omg you are way toooo kind darlin, thank you very much for the sweet words. I did in fact email the guy as he suggested in his initial post. That was two days ago, complete with examples of 1. a jingle I made for a night club and 2. various ads I have done.
I have yet to receive a reply. I doubt for one moment that what I do would be suitable for him...but all the same, would you not have expected a guy who was genuine to have at least thanked me for taking the time to treat his enquiry seriously? Well that would have been the courteous thing to do in NZ anyway

The use of jingles in a show is not odd as many here think. Many DJs use it, and it can be quite effective. There are DJs with good voice that exchange jingles with one another.
When use properly, jingles, can be an effective tool. Dan ( the 'dangerous' one ) may want to elaborate since he have a DJ background.

To coin the phrase of KNIGHTSHOW,, "woah.... attitude police... pull OVER! !
"
Those "old timers", and super posters did not seem to know the answer did they??? Had no clue... it IS funny, that all you old timers and "pros" dont know what the use of a jingle is... FUNNY indeed, that because someone asks a question they get hammered by guys with nothing better to do..
You guys have far to much extra time if this is what you do. I would not be worried about my lack of creativity in MY shows, I would be wondering why you are so unaware as to what a dropin or jingle is.. and why you have so much free time to reply to every post the second it is posted.. You said you help a lot of people... I have been reading a lot of posts here and see only this type of help... the "I can do it better" responce. No actual help. Just insertion into posts just for the sake of it.. only a few here seem to have their "act" together.
Funny... you dont know what a jingle is.. and you guys are the pros. I suggest to you, that you use GOOGLE before you begin trying to answer and respond to something you have no knowledge of. I know I will before I dare post to this forum for any help. Why dont you think before replying?? Its a forum, not a contest.

Warning: Totally off-topic and unhelpful reply:
Daym guys, every one of you ...Go have a piece of pie or something.
These shouting matches in here can get ugly. It's Christmas, like diafel said..
Kurt Johnson, I'm gonna whip your butt with a Douglas Fir switch, mind your manners!
Dan, I'm of absolutely no help, but I also would be curious to hear any samples of what you're talking about if you have/get any. I've never seen a KJ use them (i'm not a KJ, just a wannabe superstar ).. and I too am curious. But good luck to you.

I can't believe that this has turned into : My "show" is BIGGER than your "show" ...and I have more posts than you do too. . Can it be very long before we are measuring our "songbooks" in inches????

vbu2c5 @ Wed Dec 24, 2008 11:47 pm wrote: Ok, I am going to give a reply here and try not to pi$$ everyone off because there is definitely some tension building here. The OP asked a question and you chose to answer with a question, that question being, " Why wouldn't you want to use your own voice while hosting. Isn't half the show the host's personality? " now I can see where the second part of that question can be misconstrued as a bit of a slight. Maybe if he had got a few answers first he wouldn't have reacted the way he did. Who knows? What I do know is that everyone seems to be a bit edgy lately, EVERYONE! Including myself which is why I have not been posting much recently. I see threads and posts and I find myself having to bite my keyboard. Not so much this thread, I think maybe there has been just a bit of a misunderstanding. Dan13601, you got some good answers, and like the way you stood up for yourself. Just do what you think is best and if you don't want anyone to know why you are choosing this route so be it. Ok, I've got my popcorn ready............Rudy.
Rudy sweety dont bite your keyboard come bite me instead

I am wrong in thinking that by Diafel saying " Isn't half the show the host's
personality? " that she somewhat inferred that he must need these jingles because he or his show has no personality? I'm sure she didn't mean it that way, but when I first read her reply I did somewhat think that it did appear to come across a bit rude. Just an opinion, not fact. Diafel I have no problem with you, and I think you are very gracious in taking the high road out of this. Just trying to see both sides.
I also agree it's Christmas, ( well now it's Boxing Day, oh I do miss my Canadian Lady ) people, chill the f*** out.
Oh and Dan, a bit of advice, if Morgan went out of her way to help you, please at least thank her. Of all the people on this forum she can be the nicest and the meanest, if you deserve it. Rudy.
