hey guys so I'm freakin b/c I need the backing track from "baby it's cold outside" sung by James Taylor and Natalie Cole, SO if Anyone could extract the vocals from it or let me know how to do it (I have ableton live 6 and garage band) or just point me in the direction of an actual backing track.

it would be greatly appreciated.

here's the song download:

I know that the song is out on Sound Choice 8899 by Ray Charles and Betty Carter,
and it is also on Pocket Songs 6031 (listed as Various for artist).

MP4 is a digital format similar to MP3, However, besides being able to encode and compress audio files, it is also used to encode and compress multimedia files that can contain video images, still photos, streaming audio and video and even subtitles.

I downloaded the file, but it's extension is m4p and even though I changed it to mp4, when I tried to convert it, it tells me the file is damaged. Not sure what's up with it.

Yup, m4p is the copyright protected format of itunes/apple. I guess, you are out of luck... sorry.

I'm sure Jeff Daniels would be able to create a backing track for you... I get most of my backings from him and they really are of a high quality. His custom tracks usually are around USD$65.

You can contact Jeff here:

I think you need to choose one of the many other versions of this song and work with it. You obviously don't want it badly enough to pay for it so why would someone waste hours of their time to make it for you for free? The Martina McBride & Dean Martin version doesn't sound half bad to me. There's no acoustic guitar in it but it's available.

I've made several karaoke tracks for myself and they can be very time consuming to get them just right. Removing the vocals can sometimes be done in a timely fashion but rarely can this be done to the satisfaction of most people. There always seems to be some residual vocals remaining. Getting the lyrics swipes timed right can be especially difficult when trying to do it on a song that you're not really familiar with.
