remote functions only are a reality in the dvd world.
My RSQ505 was that way.
So were a couple functions on my JVC555.
So don't let that be an immediate hinderance. Just way too many things for a normal player to do, especially if it's multi-format.

Bad news in regard to the Pioneer DV-210K. My niece informed me that all of her discs are DVD, so I went and tried some CD+Gs. No dice. DVD only.

Thanks for posting that--I hadn't bought one yet. Too bad because I read on Amazon, etc. that people are having the same problems with having to send even the home versions of brands V and R back to the factory so it is hard to know what to risk your money on these days. Can't figure out the problem because I have a $40 Memorex karaoke player that is still going after 6 plus years (but it doesn't have a key changer, etc.) so you would think they could make something in these "modernn" times that plays for more than a week.

unsure if I mentioned this before, but you can ALWAYS pick up some pretty good deals on karaoke players on Ebay...
just be wary of some of the shipping and handling charges on top of the price of the player. It's an old scam by the ebayers to avoid paying higher charges per auction.

That's a good point. For our professional set-up we bought a used JVC on E-Bay and had our old Pioneer laser repaired. When a person brings in their own ancient, scratched up disc and the JVC can't read it, the old Pioneer does it every time. But both those options were a little more than I want to pay for a gift for home use. I am just so wary of the other brands because we have a brand new Brand V just sitting on a shelf because it has been back to the factory 3 times and still can't keep both drawers operating longer than 8 songs. Maybe I should give IT as the gift.......

I just bought a Philips DCP851 portable DVD player, with 8" screen, that plays CDGs. I am giving it to my wife for Christmas (which for us falls on Jan 3rd) so I haven't totally unlimbered it yet. I did check to make sure it plays CDG disks, and it definitely does.
If it works out, I plan on using it as my method for playing user CDGs at shows. We get very few asking for that, but it does happen. This way I don't have to switch screens or do anything. Pop it in, and the lyrics come up right on the player itself.

Um, you're going to display lyrics on an 8" screen at a professional show? I don't think that's a great idea. You could add a video switch and display it on your normal screen for just a few bucks...
Just out of curiosity, why switch players for patrons' discs. I get a LOT of that at my shows. Worried about picking up viral problems on your player?

I have seen 5" monitors displaying lyrics, and they are quite legible. It isn't as easy as adding a video switch when your main source is on a PC going to a VGA display. I could add a video capture of some type, I suppose, but that expense is not justified for the once-a-week frequency we are talking about. I am not afraid of viruses. No one needs to be afraid unless they have autoplay enabled. It is not smart to have that on, anyway.
No, it's because no matter what any of the manufacturers says, I get hiccups when playing and inserting disks. I don't want to have that happen.

Ah. I didn't realize that you are PC based. I'm not quite sure what the problem with splitting a input is. VGA from the PC, and composit from the player to the same monitor. Heck, the monitor probably has inputs for both, if it's reasonably new, and you dont have to switch at all, except for source.
What do you mean by "hiccups"? Some sort of jitter or bounce? Again, I'm disc based and have never had the experience...

The majority on this forum are these days. Quote: I'm not quite sure what the problem with splitting a input is. VGA from the PC, and composit from the player to the same monitor. It is a VGA monitor, not a television. VGA only. I have composite out but not for the singer monitor, for the bar TV(s). Quote: What do you mean by "hiccups"? Some sort of jitter or bounce? Again, I'm disc based and have never had the experience...
Yes, the music "jumps" when the disk is being read. Very annoying.

Is this in an actual CDG player, or does this happen when you load a disc into your PC?
I've never had the problem with a player, and PC drives aren't made for this sort of use.
Ah, just anwered my own question- hence the separate player.....
It takes awhile, but my brain WILL eventually process incoming info.... ![Embarassed ](./images/smilies/icon_redface.gif)
