Actually if you just keep the Peaveys & amp use those for the tops & just get a sub & amp or powered sub with the Driverack you may be pleasantly surprised how much difference the sub will add. At least I would try that first rather than getting an entire new speakers system.

Sounds good to me I was just guessing those speakers were outdated and low grade pro audio gear. I was surprised when I did a search on that model and they are early 90's if I remember correctly.

The salesman must have seen me coming because I was under the impression they were the latest and greatest. If only I knew of this site two years ago

Honestly they aren't the top of the line for Peavey, however, crossed over with a sub under them will make a huge difference. Just because something is old doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't work or sound decent. Which is why I was suggesting since you are looking into a sub, get the sub first (only really need one to start with) with an amp & see how they sound with the current Peavey tops. Make sure to match the amp to the subs 'program' power rating for maximum sound & efficiency.

Fair enough.

I'm still trying to understand the hook up though. The Left and Right from the mixer will go to the DBX Driver PA and it will split Left and Right in Low's, Mid's, and High's. The Low's will go into the sub amp and to the sub in bridge mode. Will the mids need an amp and the highs need an additional amp for a total of three amps? If so how do I hook the mids and highs into my speakers? The speakers have 2 1/4" jacks, but I thought they did the same thing. What if I want to add an inexpensive Kustom stage monitor, how would it hook in? If I get past my basic setup I am lost so explaining this will help tremendously.

There are some different scenarios depending on whether you run stereo tops or mono.

1. Stereo

* Mixer left out to left in on DriveRack PA
* Mixer right out to right in on Driverack PA
* Driverack high left out to left amp channel connected to 115DL
* Driverack high right out to right amp channel connected to 115 DL
* Driverack left low out to amp connecting subwoofer

2. Mono

* Mixer left/mono out to left in on DriveRack PA
* Driverack high left out to amp channel connected to both 115DLs in parallel
* Driverack left low out to amp connecting subwoofer

The DriveRack can be set up to accomodate virtually any combination.

If the amp was a little bigger, in mono you could actually get away with running one amp channel for the sub and one for the mains. That is what I do with one of my setups and an EP2500 (780W at 4 ohms, 450W at 8 ohms).

Thanks for the response!

I planned on keeping it in stereo. What happens to the mids?
I am following you with the Low's and High's but I'm lost with the mids.

As far as the monitor's if I get a mixer with a monitor out it would go to the monitor amp and to the monitor's? Or does the drive rack need to process the monitor sound?

The DriveRack is a processor with completely flexible outputs depending on configuration. Mids only pertain when running bi-amped tops. You can effectively ignore them.

No, it wouldn't normally be connected to the monitor channel. You would use a separate channel of a graphic equalizer to eq them.

And bi-amping the 115dl would cause me to do a speaker modification?

I am starting to understand I was just having problem's understanding how it would sound without the mid's.

It will be set up in 2x3 configuration. Mono low output go to sub amp, high left/right go to the main cabs. The mid out is not used in this configuration.
Stage monitor would not be connected to the main outputs, but through an aux send on the mixer - it would need to be powered or have it's own amp as well.

The mids are not used in the 2x3 config. In this case everything over the sub crossover point is sent to the main cabs & the internal crossover of the speaker will act as it always does - in effects making a 3 way system.

The monitor will need it's own send from the mixer, does not go through the Driverack.

You can bi-amp the 115's however like said you'd need to modify the speakers to allow each driver to have their own input bypassing the internal crossover completely. Then you would need another amp to run the mids as well - this would be considered a tri-amp system. It can really bring out the sound alot more, however because it requires an additional amp, not really necessary at this time. Something you could do later, but with the Peavey cabs, i'd just run them as is.

Wow, I'm in overload. I think I am good to go and your explanation made sense. I will pray for a good tax return and the equipment shall start rolling in.

I will have future questions but until then Thanks for your time!!!!
