I'm an avid beach volleyball player in the daytime and a closet (actually, my second bedroom) karaoke singer at night. I got into karaoke as a hobby in my home about 5 years ago because I hated being so nervous in the karaoke bar and wanted to improve. Fast forward to today and I believe I need some serious therapy because I'm still buying CDGs and looking for KJ-like equipment with no real aspirations on being a KJ. My recent searching on the Net for a better player brought me back to this site which is the best place I've seen covering a wide range of karaoke topics!
My setup:
JVC Triple tray boombox MX-V588T
Yamaha EMX62m Powered mixer
12" Custom speaker (only have one with no stand)
~200 CDGs - I buy only CB these days as I like the quality of the sound and lyrics
Monthly subcription to CB Country and I purchase the CB Pop Set for the year
KJPro database/songbook creator
Cheapo VHF wireless mics
I occasionally run karaoke at parties for friends so I do get to pretend I'm a KJ at times.
So I'm trying to figure out how to have a simple home system that can go mobile easily that has enough power to fill a clubhouse room.
Where my addiction is heading:
Going disc-less. Sounds like it will be 15 min/CDG = 50hrs and no volleyball for a few days!
UHF Mics because my cheap VHF ones drop out and won't stay connected
Monitor speaker(s)
Replacing my boombox with a player that supports more formats, still has multiple trays, and is fast for disc load
Finding out where I'm going to find the money to pay for all of this stuff!
BTW, I forgot to mention that I live right behind a music store. Talk about location, location, location!
Thanks to the owners of this site and to all of you who contribute your expertise. I'm looking forward to doing my part and fueling the economy.
