Oh am i having problems!!!! I am trying to put my karaoke cd's onto a laptop so that my husband can use it in his show. Instead of packing around all the cd's. I have Virtual DJ and Audiograbber on the laptop. Can anyone tell me how to use these two programs together step by step? I am at my wits end!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks in advance

When using Audiograbber your cd drive has to be "cdg capable" or you will only get audio and no graphics.
You could try the demo of http://www.powerkaraoke.com/src/prod_powercdgburner.php whch works with most cdr drives and if it does work with your cdr drive then I would go with that program as many here claim it does the best job of ripping karaoke tracks to the computer.

I believe you need a plugin for Virtual DJ to play karaoke but others more knowlegable on that topic will guide you there.

be warned, MANY laptop drives (the half height ones) are not able to be worked with with powerkaraoke.

Lynn,

Hang in there! It takes time to understand and get it going!
Good advice from RLC and Knightshow!

Virtual DJ is Really Nice. I've used it for over a year now.
Basically, with Virtual DJ you must have a GOOD Video and Sound Card
coupled with a good mixer, i.e. Hercules.

Audiograbber does work with drives that are not officially cdg drive, you'll need to slow down the speed to 4 or 8x max to get a clear graphic

This software works will all the drives I've tested so far, only one was an official Plextor cdg drive.

Hey thanks to you guys. I think you might have opened my eyes to something. The guy that gave me the program also had some karaoke on it and it plays his just fine. which leads me to believe that my sound card and video card are working just fine. My lap top is an hp that is about a year old has xp on it.(don't hold that against me!!!)
Some one said that i needed a program that converted wav files to mp3.
I have figured out how to get them on the computer, they will show up in my play list, will play the music but not the graphics. SO, is the wav to mp3 what I need you think?

audiograbber will rip to mp3 so long as you have the lame codec installed. in fact it will rip to wav + graphics, mp3+g or straight to bin...its a handy wee prog. But when I got it I had to install the lame codec to make it rip mp3 at a decent bitrate

mp3toolz is a good conversion process if you originally ripped them to .bin (wav + .cdg), then you can convert to .mp3+g (mp3 file and a .cdg file, both named the same).

As you can see Lynn there are different programs and different avenues to get to where you want to be. Contrary to what Micky has stated I have never had any sucess or heard of anyone having any sucess (except Micky) using Audiograbber to rip karaoke tracks on a cdr drive that was not CDG capable. Also as stated Audiograbber will rip to different formats but you do need the Lame encoder--> http://www.free-codecs.com/Lame_Encoder_download.htm
I do use Audiograbber to do my ripping of karaoke tracks on my desktop which has a Plextor cdr drive (which is cdg capable). And I have tried it on 3-4 cdr drives that are not cdg capable and it has NOT worked.
I too have a HP about 1 year old running xp and I know the cd drive in it is NOT cdg capable, but as stated there are other programs such as PowerCDGBurner as linked to above that work with many cdr drive whether they are cdg capable or not. (PowerCDgBurner is not the only one either) I believe PowerCDGBurner will rip directly to mp3&g zipped format, someone will correct me if I am wrong.
Disclaimer--> I am not plugging the program, heck I don't even own it.
There are several software tools you will want for this karaoke thing, some are free, some are not.
As stated by knightshow mp3gtoolz is one software tool that you will probably want to get (and it is free)
--> http://www.activeaspsoftware.net/defaul ... 2Fproducts

Hope this is of some help.
