I am a newbie trying to learn how to use my PC to do Karaoke. Thanks to the helpfull people in this forum, I have downloaded Audiograbber, Winamp, and AutoKDJ to rip my CDG collections and play them on my laptop. The combination worked well and best of all they are free! There is one thing that I would like to do and that is to change the boring plain color background to something more interesting like photos, etc. Is this doable in Winamp? I tried Siglos Karaoke Professional player and it has the nice background but also costs $99. If I can do the same with Winamp that would be great. Thx.

I believe it is possible with AutoKDJ but I am not knowlegeable as to how, someone else (perhaps DannyG2006) can tell you how to do it. There is also another free player that does what you wish - Karafun --> http://www.karafun.com/karaokeplayer/
You might want to check it out as well.

Thank you RLC. I tried Karafun and liked it but it does not have one function that, to me, is essential and that is "search". One can sort the tracks in the library by artist, title, etc., but it does not have a "search" function like in AutoKDJ. To me that is a major flaw. Imagine if you have to look for a song in a libary that contains 500 tracks. What were they thinking??

I dunno, for a free player, I feel winamp using a standard windows explorer worked well for ME for over six years in a bar environment.

Knightshow, you are right that you don't need AutoKDJ if all you want is a search engone.
you can still search in winamp if you don't zip your files using the media library. AutoKDJ is good for those who want the tools to make the work easier for you.
As to backgrounds with winamp and AUtoKDJ there is a plugin at the AUtoKDJ site that will do the trick. www.autoKDJ.com

I run a very simple show... don't know how much EASIER you want it to be Danny.

Right click on the file to enqueue it in winamp.

Play the file when it's time... and while that's playing, enqueue other singer songs.

Ding... fries are DONE!

Sax & Dotty's Hoster/Presenter uses winamp as it's player and the search feature in S&D works very well.
