Hi all, I know I read something about this subject on this forum, but darned if I could find it. Anyhow, I'm in the process of ripping ALL of my cdg's to harddrive. I am using Compuhost, with Cdgrip, all going pretty good, THEN, I get to my Party Tyme cdgs, and when I played them back, BAM, SERIOUS DELAY in visual lyrics tracking. The music is about 20 seconds ahead of the trailer. I'm pretty sure that I read on here that it has something to do SPECIFICALLY with Party Tyme cdgs.
ANY input on this subject is GREATLY APPRECIATED. I already know that it's not my video card, I have ALL of the requirements needed to run Compuhost on DX mode.
All other brands seem to rip just fine. HELP ??????
THANKS
Rosario

I'm not an expert, but I would try downloading "Power cd+g burner", the trial version from "powerkaraoke.com" and see if it rips the files correctly. All rippers are not created equal.

Thanks for the suggestion, however, Cdgrip by the makers of Compuhost is a good product, and I haven't had any other problems ripping, EXCEPT with the Party Tyme discs. What I'm asking, is if they're able to be ripped, if anyone has ripped this brand, and if so, what did they do to rip them?
Thanks

Hi. Also new here. I have ripped hundreds of disks including party time with zero lag. I know when u open compuhost u have an option for the dx mode should u experience lag in the text. Try the other version. try a coulpe other things like your ripping format and zipped vs unzipped. I normally use mp3 zipped with a plextor external drive. Although it shouldn't affect it but also try a slower ripping speed. Although I have not had a problem with the specific disk brand I did have some lag with a disk I ripped on an internal drive. Re-ripped on the plextor drive plextor drive and perfect.
What drive r u using and what settings.

I am using internal drive for ripping. I am interested in this Plextor external drive, I have read, and heard alot of mention about it. What model Plextor are you using? Do ALL MODELS of Plextor burners burn cdg? Thanks for the input, welcome to the forum. By the way, I downloaded the NEW version of CdgRip, and am copying at the OPTIMAL speed, and the bit rate of 256, zipped mp3+g but think I may go to the highest bit rate. That only affects the SOUND, not the VIDEO, and the sound is already good. I've already tried to rip on STANDARD MODE of Compuhost, STILL LAGTIME with Party Tyme. So I'm thinking that maybe Plextor is the way to go. I just want to make SURE that I buy the correct model.
Thanks
Rosario

no, not ALL Plextor models will rip or burn .cdg... they USED to. But with major karaoke manufacturers pressuring them, Plextor relented. Most will at least RIP the tracks, burning is another matter.
The list of supported Plextor (and other burners) can be found at http://www.goldenhawk.com (and click on the java button for "supported devices".

My understanding is that Plextor drives don't buy you anything these days. I have one, but I don't need to use it as my regular-old DVD drive works great.
Not all Plextor models have the ability to read subcode, so be careful.

I'd try Audiograbber to see if you get a better rip on any troublesome cdgs. I had a couple problems with a few Chartbusters that wouldn't let me rip a track. It handled the multi-session just fine, but for some reason, on both my computers, I couldn't get track 15! Weird. I do have a trial version of powerkaraoke, and it ripped right through it for the first minute it allowed.

A drive built by Plextor is CDG compatible but they often outsource their drives from Ricoh and therefore, not cdg compatible, well, yes... if you use the Deinterleave mode...

While I now use a Plextor drive, primarilly, when I rip, at the time when I ripped my Party Tyme discs I didn't have a Plextor drive
As Knight suggested, try Audiograbber and see how that works.

ALL, sorry for bad syntax. Typing from phone and caught myself text typing.
SRNITY, I haven't purchased any new P/T disks in a while. Are these newer releases? Let me know some disk numbers and I be happy to re rip some tonight as a test. I will get you the model number of my drive when I get home. It has performed wonderfully for me.

Well now I'm REALLY confused as to which way to go. I'll try Audiograbber, and see what happens. Also, Rocnbol, some of the cdg #'s are syb-1076, or may be identified by sy-1076, another is syb,or sy-1049. Thanks for trying. Let me know the model Plextor you're using. But, I really hate to have to buy MORE equipment for just a few discs. I will be running both laptop, and cdg player, so,if I have to, I'll just play them on the player. BUT I SURE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT'S THE PROBLEM.
Thanks
Rosario

The couple of PT discs I have imported fine with MTU Hoster. Download the demo of Microstudio to see if they will import.

Well, I didnt have those disk numbers but I played around with the ones I do have. Using a Plextor PX-708UF I ripped them in all four formats. zero lag. I also tried on my desktop internal drive and while I did have some graphic errors the timing of the test to music was correct. I noticed that the way the introduction screen loads (scrollilng paint method broken into about 15 rows) could hamper some playback depending on video card. It takes roughly nine seconds to complete. Check how long to load that intro screen. You didnt metion if your playback problems are on the KJ screen or an external display. I was not able to test with ext. monitor so my results were on KJ display only.
Try some of the other ripping demos out there and see if theres a difference.
Sorry I couldnt help more.

The "Sy" or Syb" in front of the disc # is for SyberSound, the manufacturers of PT discs. You might contact them (yeah, right) or they might have a troubleshooting forum on line. Just a weird thought....

I've had a few sound choice tracks that randomly lag on the lyrics. A song will be fine usually and then randomly will lag. This has happened 3 or 4 times to me. Would seem to be in the program itself in this case.

I'm STILL ripping cdgs, EVERYTHING except the Party Tyme discs. Today I contacted Compuhost, and told them of the problem, and that it was only happening with these particular cdgs, they told me that the manufacturer PROBABLY encoded some type of code that they could not be copied. Have any of you ever heard of anything like this, or have any of you ACTUALLY experienced this. When I say Lag, I mean that the Party Tyme logo is still on the screen and the music for the first page of lyrics has already been played. By the time the tracking starts, the music for the second page is done.
ALL IDEAS WELCOME

I only have two Party Tyme discs that I've ripped, all is fine with those. Have you tried playing them back in Legacy mode, not DX mode? It sounds alot like a video lagging problem to me. Legacy mode uses another method, bypassing the DirectX requirements, although this method does impose alot more load on the CPU per the task manager.

Thanks, tbreen, for the suggestion, TRIED IT, after the FIRST TIME that I ripped them. No change whatsoever. At least we're on the same page. STILL NOWHERE.
Oh Well.

Like Lon, I have successfully copied that type of disc with MTU Hoster. Never had an issue with the sweep being out of sync with the music with those.
