Well folks. I've been to someshows where KJ's use dummy books. Some manufacturers of karaoke music aren't even in business any more. Why would KJ's use dummy books just to cover their backside? Just to cover their backside?

I don't understand the term.

I have a TON of music that's discontinued. Just because it is discontinued, doesn't mean I can't use it!

Knightshow, that is correct and so do I. Some KJ's that always had a computer and never had dummy books before are all of a sudden using them just to cover themselves.

At a show I went to, I told the kj, with his book in hand, that I wanted to sing a perticular song, or songs. He said that he didn't have those versions which I showed him. Then I asked him why they were in his book. He had no answer for it. That told me he had a dummy book just to make it look like he had those sings. His books are alot thinner then what he really has in his computer. So, the name "dummy book."

Wait what?

1) You say his book had songs that he didn't really have.

2) You say his books were THINNER than his real library.

Which is it?

Both. That's why it's a dummy book.

I have books that while some of my songs in my computer are not listed yet, every song listed in my book I have.
To have books where you don't even have those songs is unprofessional in my opinion. Was at a show once where they listed the Radio Starz Journey disc so I put in a song from it, one that wasn't available elsewhere at the time, and got told that they didn't have the disc.

The only thing I can figure, is that this kj that you're speaking of, PROBABLY used to use cdgs, with a player, and made the books at that time. THEN, when he decided to go to computer, HE KEPT THE SAME BOOKS, instead of making a NEW book with only
the songs that he had RIPPED to computer, which was NOT his whole collection. He didn't want to look bad, by having such a small COLLECTION, so he took a shot, HOPING nobody would pick a song not yet RIPPED.
Either he is still in the process of ripping cdgs, and intends to make a NEW book when he's finished, OR, if I'm WRONG, he is just a DUMMY, not his book.

I have to agree. Why would you list a song you don't really have? lmao

I wonder if he bought a collection & set of books from another company that didn't sell all the discs?
I had two discs lost/stolen that are in my current books. I just did a complete reprint a couple months ago & not due to do another until May or so. Fortunately all but maybe 6 songs on those discs I do have from other manus. But they are not listed in the intentionally nor trying to make the book look bigger.

I can't imagine why you'd have a dummy book. I just don't get it. Dummy means it's fake - not real. What's the point?

Maybe that's why they call it that because it is DUMB.

Maybe the dummy book is the book that the KJ used before he bought a preloaded hard drive and he never bothered to rip any of his actual discs to his new hard drive??? Anything is possible.

The only reason I could think of is, a dummy book could make it look like he has more songs than he actually does. Kind of counter productive though when he has to tell people it's a fake book he really doesn't have that many songs.

I'm sure you all are correct and he is a very, very arrogant dummy to go along with his dummy book, expensive new advertising van, and fake arrogant looking grin.
What a dumd a**.

Over the years I have I put together about 13 k of karaoke. For 3 or 4 years as I added I trimmed junk and songs not used. Also songs that regulars sang I replaced with better versions. For 3 years or so I got all the THM each month.

I have literally spent years getting rid of dups. The only dups are a few versions of popular songs that are used. I dont buy cd's anymore but download new as needed or requested at the venues or parties.

I used to have new sections in my books but dont have them anymore. People put in songs if we dont have I will download or look for later. Also we do on the fly computer searches for songs that arnt in the book.

When people say they have 50k or whatever I just shrug and smile. I have a good selection and very very seldom does a singer come up with an old one that I dont have.
I would like to trim it down to 8 or 10k if wasnt such a pain.
