Hi folks,

I am using a laptop and a DVD player to play my karaoke in some gigs, I used a 4 in 2 out video selector which could independently send different signals to the 2 outputs. This way I could do a search in my DVD while the singer is seeing the PC output on her screen.

The problem is, my laptop needs to be directly hooked to the monitor when booting up otherwise it will not detect the monitor and go to a single display mode. After it boots, then I pull out the RCA coming out of my PC from the monitor and connect it to one of the inputs of my video selector to cheat the booting process.

My problem is, after a while that I have not been sending the PC signal to either of the 2 outputs, the PC rests bck to the single display mode, which means I'll have to redo the process again. I'm using Windows Vista, anybody knows how to keep it at 2 display modes?

Pick up an adapter. For some reason it works. I had the same problem.

Just to clarify your suggestion bro, what I'm using is a cable with 1 end S-Video and the other end is RCA, would the converted work better?

Thanks for the suggestion bro, but I purposely bought a laptop with S-Video output (couldn't find one with RCA) so I don't have to convert the signal from one form to another.

Personally I find that using a VGA --> S video adapter better than using the S video --> composite adapter. The RCA connection is nice and solid and not easily yanked out and the VGA connection has screws to keep the connection in place. After time I found the S video connection on my laptop was getting loose and I had two instances where it got bumped out of the machine's plug.

Additional bonus: Plug it in and it has enough resistance to have Vista boot utilizing the second display already.

When I boot up with my s-video connection (s-video to rca, like this one), I stay connected to the TV, but I have an A/B splitter (common one from Radio Shack - start with A side), where I can play vcds on my dvd/cdg player (B side). Once booted I switch back to the PC (A side), I will then play a series of advertisements on my pc.

Everybody's show is unique on how they want to do it. I personally never upgraded to Vista as I KNEW it had problems like this. My old stable workhorse is never on the net, so once it initializes and sees the TV, it doesn't try to get smart, and it sees the TV connection all the time.

There's a setting I think on Vista you can click off but I have no idea what it is! ! I've heard someone mention it here once.

Oh I remember this product, I'll have to check my notebook manual tonight if my VGA output is capable of TV-OUT. Since it already has a TV-OUT in the S-Video maybe it will have the capability (cross fingers).
