Well, as I once told my boyfriend, "I'd sing "Happy Birthday' to you but you'd just say, 'What song is that? I can't tell by the way you're doing it'."

He is the ear/voice of the team. I am the organizaion/help carry equipment person. And as the song buyer, I like some DK and am getting happier and happier with Chartbuster. There, back on thread.

I'll let that pitch and tempo comment pass.......but you are correct.

I am saying that you don't notice it if you are on pitch and on tempo. You didn't notice it, did you? 8-)

On some songs you do, even if you're on pitch... The flute is often to strong and forget it if you wish to record a session  I've been wanting to record a track from Foreigner, man, I'll need to scream to cover the vocal guide

MInor hijack but referring to background music/vocal guides - some singers get TOTALLY CONFUSED by any vocals going on in the background, even harmonies or 'oohs' and 'aahs' - I was happy to find that one of my versions of The Rose doesn't have the heavy vocal backing like the Pioneer version does (and no jump in volume partway through). The less there is in the way of vocals running in the background the better for many new/insecure singers.

Ah.....

So, Karen offers an opinion that the preferred track for Karaoke shows may not be the one "closest to the original"

Glad to hear another point of view!!! Very glad!

And, Micky, while you have criticized DK because you can't make a good recording using a particular DK track as a backing track, consider that very few people use karaoke tracks for that purpose. I can't say if I agree or disagree with your evaluation because I have never attempted to make such a recording. Could there be a deficiency with the software you are using. I believe some software would allow you to minimize the flute. No?

Not making a criticism on DK, love their backing  In fact, my first ever package was the Encore 25 cd's and for live karaoke, you can't go wrong! You see, I'm no KJ at all, I just love singing and recording in multitracks, so of course, I'm always searching for the best possible sound and I must say, Chartbuster is on top of the list followed by Zoom, SC would be third, but some of their classic rock is on top for sure :D

I do understand you folks are pro KJ and your concerns are different than mine  Live & studio sound are two different thing

I think Karen was referring to "Any Background Vocals" tend to throw people off tempo or key. Some people have a problem singing with other harmonies going on within the mix.

I think this is because they are thrown off pitch and attempt to match pitch of the background vocals instead of singing in harmony with them.

With regard to the "Flute" in DK I have the DK 1-99 set and there are a few songs in there that are too flutie by my standards but it is an excellent set.

I think you can find duds in ever set.

Flipper

I'll agree that some of the tracks might have too much flute. I also believe that there are tracks with no flute at all?

Which Pioneer version do you have that has background vocals? It must have been one of their later remade versions. I have it on an original laser with no background vocals at all.
