I have the Lexicon Alpha USB Desktop Recording Studio as an external sound device and I want to make sure I am doing this correct...I have it connected this way...

Usb to the laptop...alpha driver is loaded and is the default...
I have 2 1/4 inch outs from the alpha to 2 channels on my mixer... Gain on mixer set to 3/4...the lexicon is set to "monitor level" and "output mix" are both set to 12 oclock


I have not used a external sound device before so i am checjing t make sure this is correct....

It works but I have read so much I forgot if this is the bes way and the only way t set this up...thanks and I am sorry if this has been beaten to death!!

You are not monitoring anything so turn the monitor to playback - full right. Output about 12: oclock is good. Gain on mixer about 12:00 to start.

I own the Lexicon Alpha, too. And I'm very happy with the quality and sound of this unit.

I have the volume on my computer set 100% going through the Alpha. The volume is controlled through the Alpha & mixer.

Computer sound card volume? Doesn't the Aplha act as it's own sound device also? I know my Lexicon Omega totally bypasses the internal sound card of the computer, that's one of the features that helped me pick it as my interface of choice. Of course the Alpha and Lambda arrived after the Omega, so I didn't have the choices that are available now. I always assumed the Alpha was the Omega's little brother with the Lambda tucked in-between them.

It does act as it's own sound card but the computer internal volume control still works to control the signal to the Alpha. At least it does on my Vista machine & will control the USB signal output to the Alpha - not the actual internal sound card of the computer, this IS bypassed entirely. Which is why I set the volume output on the computer to 100%.

Ok This is kinda strange...I apoligize in advance for the long post...

I had posted earlier about a static or loud hissing sound...I call it static because it is that loud Scratching sound...Here is what happens...I use virtual DJ for music playback...and "just karaoke" for karaoke...When ever I use the Virtual DJ or for that matter Media player to play music every song plays for about 10 seconds then SSSCCHHAATTCHH.....the loud static sound runs through the tracks...I tried to use different players Windows media player etc...same result...but when I use the Just Karaoke program for karaoke...it works perfectly...

We did a show saturday night and I noticed that when this happens it would kind of come and go...meaning that somtimes the music would come back on and the static would disapear... Somtimes the music would just stop no static the Alpha (blue light) would go black and or turn off...I had to unplug the usb from the alpha to the laptop to get the alpha powered up again.

Its strange...So I am wondering if my mixer has somethig to do with this...Its a cheap Berringer model...very cheap had it a few years...Does the mixer have that much to do with sound quality? (kind of a dump question since I think I know the answer) The laptop is a fresh build and the usb cable from the Alpha to the laptop is the one out of the alpha box so it is new...I am kind of at a loss because this could be anything...The Mixer, the alpha, the usb PORT...The karaoke music and the other tunes are on an external HD Via USB...(new Cable as well)...I am not sure how to troubleshoot this so any help would be great...I am thinking about a new mixer since thats the oldest and cheapest peice of the puzzle...any suggestions?!

Lexicon Alpha Sound Card
DBX Power Speaker Optimiser
JBL EON 15
Video Converter box to external Monitor
We also use a Cable (Snake) new

After all this money (I know that doesn't matter)I am still having these issues...SO I have to fix this...I would love to hear your feedback or suggestions This could be real simple and you all have a ton more experience than I do at this...This is my part time job, but it is important that I can fulfill my obligations to my clients with out a hitch!...thanks again...

I've got a new excuse -- "I can't sing that song! The mixer is Behringer. It must be the problem!"

The mixer and amp cannot care whether JustKaraoke or any other program is outputting the sound. It is undoubtedly a driver problem. I would uninstall all sound drivers via the Device manager, then reboot and let it install the Alpha driver.

I hear that!...But I am scrambleing trying to figure it out...

THe mixer has nothing to do with the Alpha shutting off, sound like it could be a bad connection possibly or something in your computer settings shutting that USB port off - maybe some kind of a sleep mode. I know mine will go off when the computer goes into a hibernate mode for the night & I have to unplug/replug in the morning. But it should do that with an active computer that is being worked on all night.

We turn all that hibernate stuff off on all pc's. It did it again tonight ..playing music then scratch.....thoneen the blue light on the alpha goes black...sound gone..I might have to contact lexicon might be a bad unit?
