Anyone using one of the newer CAVS players with a USB port and a hard drive hooked up to it? I'm looking for people using one of the more recent models, not an older CAVS player.

Which model? 203 or 105?

How did you get your SCDG discs onto the hard drive?

How well does it work with regular Karaoke CDs?

I have several SCDG disks and I was already thinking of getting a regular Karaoke player for people that bring their own disks. For a little more money I figured I might want to buy a machine that plays SCDG disks too? Yeay or nay? I'm still going to use my laptop most of the time, but I figure that the player is a good backup if anything happens with the laptop.

Yeah, thanks, but I'm still interested in hearing from folks here who are using a CAVS player with USB and a hard drive hooked up. That other thread has little information that I'm interested in.

I'm looking for feedback from people using a CAVS player and how they like it, any problems etc.

I'd rather get a machine that will do more than just a regular Karaoke CD player IF it's good and not a royal pain. I asked if anyone was using a newer CAVS machine. I'd like to know if they ironed out some of their earlier issues that they had like slow loading.

Please, only folks who have some first hand knowledge of what I'm asking about, thanks.

I have the 203g and dont like the thing at all...the discs that came with it wont load in the higher numbers and the machine is slow and ponderous. After this experience I would never buy another cavs machine

Excuse the &^%$ outta me. I did as search and while it may have not been exactly what you were looking for, there was relevant information.

Don't worry, I won't bother you again with ANY more help.

actually no I don't... maybe that's the cause of all my anxiety and angst. LOL

maybe it was an overreaction, but that quoted comment couldn't have been any more dismissive. I'd rather have not had ANY comment at all if that's the way he felt.

Sheesh you go out of your way to help someone and while the help wasn't what he was looking for...

nevermind, I think I'll go unplug for awhile.

I have two of the cavs 203g usb players,(less than 1 year old) haven't used them much so I couldn't comment on durability.

To put the scdg's on an external hard drive there is a tutorial on the cavs web sight to show you how to do this. To find the tutorial go to the page for the 203g usb, on that page it will say( Additional Instrutions and Programs.) This is where you will find the tutorial.

I was at a show that had the older cavs scdg player and was not impressed with them. The time for the player to read the scdg and then select the song was to long but the new ones are much faster, but I still bought to players to solve this problem if it came up,and I would not want to do a paid kj gig with only one player.

Bought the rack mount brackets for the players off ebay, these did not fit in my skb road cases.$40 dollars wasted.Bought two raxxes shelves to mount them on, but I still haven't done that, one player has only been out of the house 3 times for family get togthers.

I haven't tried a cdg in the 203 ran off the external hard drive.

Hope this helps.

Stogie, I own the 203g, (brand new), have used it with scdg, cdg, and harddrive.
It does have a slow startup, but once it is running, few problems. I have had "some" problems with it recognizing certain tracks, but have attributed that to the discs themselves. The reason being that I can play the Nutech scdg's that it came with, and have transfered to harddrive with NO problems. But the E1-E6 Chartbuster Essentials that I bought off ebay, I have found tracks that the machine doesn't recognize. I'm attributing that to the burning of those scdg's. Of course I could be jumping to the wrong conclusion. Having said that, it plays my cdgs just like any other player. I am computerized, so once everything is transferred to mp3+g, the cavs will be used as backup. For the money I saved on the Essentials alone, the 203g was worth the price. That's my opinion.

Rosario if the machine will not play the higher numbers on scdg discs that I received with the machine, it is possibly a fair assumption that there is a fault in the makeup, if you are experiencing the same thing

Morgan, are you having problems with the Nutech scdgs, or Chartbuster Essentials? Just curious. I really didn't notice if it was higher numbers that I had a problem with, but I did notice that the problem was more prevelent with the Chartbuster than the Nutech.

to be honest Rosario I couldnt tell you as I bought it for the hotel I work for...it was to be hired out for functions held at the hotel but it is so unreliable that we no longer offer it as a service. I dont think we got chartbuster scdg with the machine...certainly got music maestro and probably nutech I think

"Your Higher Numbers Won't Play" problem is NOT the player... it's the DISC.
Your disc contains a non ACII character which causes the player to freeze.

This frequently happens to REPRODUCED CUSTOM COMPILIATIONS,
PASSED OFF AS ORIGINALS!

Simply remove the character.

Swooop, I don't mean to get off the OP subject, but what do you mean ASCII character? I figured the problem was with the disc, but didn't know that something could be done about it. How do I remove this ACSII character?

Thanks,

Rosario

srnitynow, Ms. Morgan,

I've recreated this problem several times to show others.
The characters range from foreign accents to characters that the CAVS
player doesn't recognize.

SOLUTION: REMOVE CHARACTER AND RECREATE DISC.

Load the scdg disc into a software capable of reading the CAVS DAT/mcg.mp3 files.
Scan the tracks and remove the {BAD/UNRECOGNIZED} character(s).

Perhaps "ROXBOX" can handle this. It's the software that this forum highly recognizes.

CDGFix Super has a special feature to Remove ALL Non ASCII characters.

This problem is not limited to Custom Compilation Only...
I've had it happen with Nutech and a Chartbuster scdg disc.
9 out 10 times... it's a custom compilation!

Swooop, I was planning on buying CDGFIX anyhow, so once I have it, there will be instructions on how to do what you have stated? Is CDGFIX SUPER a new version of CDGFIX? Is it still around $70? Your input on this subject is very much appreciated.

Thanks

Rosario
