I can see why you went as low end as ya did.. for your sake I just hope all your media is original and not burned unless you have the manufacturer's permission to proceed with the "fair Use" clause in the copyright law.

The media is all original. Since November, I have re-invested about every penny earned from the gigs from this little venture back into the biz. The JBL's were purchased with that money, and I have added 3 of the Soundchoice Bricks, the notorious SAV-A country set, the Backstage set, the Sweet Georgia Brown set, and the Amer*Sing set, as well as a slew of single CD+G's from Sound Coice, Chartbusters, and Sunfly Gold. As I get the disks, I spend my days off spot listening to the tracks for quality and lyric synch. I am using KJPro and as I discern crap from usuable, I simply remove the song from the playbook. I do the same with the duplicate tracks, picking out the best version of the song.... Hell, I have 4 versions of "I Love this Bar" and only list one!! Oh yeah, I am also subscribing to the Pop, Rock, and Country monthly distros of Top Hits Monthly.
I went with the Behringer gear, because after using it for the last 5 years to supplement my DJ rig, I am quite happy with it. I can abuse the hell out of it and keeps kickin.. that and the mixer is the same model I use for DJ work.
After lurking around this board for a while, I picked up on the importance of using original media.. not to mention that the 800+ cd's I have for the DJ stuff are 99% store bought.. call me a purist.. :P

Cort,

Using a Shure 55 SH? How do your guys out there like it?

I have one and the guys that do the crooners,(Elvis, Sinatra, etc.) just love it. The gals won't have nothing to do with it.

I have always wondered how many other people use this mic in their show. Looks like I'm the only one in my area to use one. Seems like this mic is turning up in all sorts of places ,(TV ads / shows, music videos, etc.)

I remember someone else, a lady (Shell, was that you?) that mentioned the Shure brands seemed to not favor the tenor ranges...

hmmmmm

Lito,

Visually the mic gets a lot of attention. Vocally it does not have the sound quality of the SM or Beta 58.

I'll agree with you that the ladies prefer the wireless mics. Had one gal though that would only sing with a stand up mic. She tried the 55 once and went right back to the Audio Technica Pro 3L.

Hi all,

I don't know what all the fuss is about we're just telling evryone what kind of systems we're all using to me that is a helpfull thing not a p*****g contest. If you wanna carry truckloads into a show it's your back and your perrogative. Me myself I've been doing this for about 8 years now and am 42 years old and over the years the systems seem to be getting heavier! LOL! but I've learned that bigger is not always better, and thank god for the advent of powered speakers(my back thanks them).
Anyways I'm babbling. My system consists of:

1 - Behringer EURORACK UB1832FX-PRO Love this board built in EQ and enough effects to choke a horse!
2 - Yamaha 400 watt powered speakers not very heavy to lift but with the big 15" woofers no need for a sub
3 - audiotech vocal mikes Cheap 3 for $150. canadian comes together in a roadcase. as responsive as the shures i was using but cheaper to replace when the drunk Roger Daltrey decides to swing em' around and drop em'
1 - Pioneer PD-F-1009 300 disk cd player with a leader decoder hooked up to the graphic optical output from the cd player. this way i put in my disks and never have to touch them again and no one can steal them.
1 - cheapass DVD player that plays mp3's for dj purpose or in between singers. My whole cd collection is ripped onto mp3 disks so i keep 20 disks woth my system wich have about 120 to 150 songs on each Plenty.
1 - Heavy duty folding flatbed trolls which when packed properly everything fits in one shot from truck to stage.

So hope this is helpful I've been playing in bands/ doing sound for bands/ doing karaoke/dj shows for since 1979 I've watched equipment shrink and get better so do your homework if you know sound eqipment like you should you should be able to make anything sound good. Learn before you spend.

Thankls folks!!!

OK well since I just got into the business and I didn't want to spend too much, here's my "entry level" system specs.

1 CAVS JB-99 w/16,300 songs pre-loaded
1 Audio-2000 180 Watts/channel Powered Karaoke Mixer
2 RSQ 350 Watt speakers w/tripods
1 13" TV w/Tripod & Microphone holders
1 set of 2 Hisonic VHF Wireless Microphones
1 Behringer 4 channel Compressor/Limiter
1 1800 Watt power conditioner
1 10Ux10 SKB "Gig Rig"

Total cost of above: About $3700.00

I plan to add a rack mount dual-CD unit later and a 2nd set of FM Wireless Mics

How do youl like those RSQ speakers? I use them in my home set up with the AKJ7050 amp and a BBE Sonic Maximizer. Considering their price, theyare pretty clear and actually perform better than I expected. What size venues are you playing? You are the first person I know of that actually owns these speakers besides myself.

Wishing you much success

I mainly chose those speakers based on price and wattage. My amp is 180 watts per channel, and the next step up would have been BMB speakers @ 450 watts a piece.

I didn't want to have to push the amp to power the speakers so I opted for the 350 watt RSQ's. They sound VERY nice and are plenty loud for just about any size room IMHO. The guy who I learned from had some huge gigantic 5 foot tall floor-speakers and it was way too much for the venue he was playing in. I figure I'll be in similar sized places so the smaller speakers should work out just fine.

8) Hi,
My system is comprised of the following "vintage equipment"!

Gemini KM-707 DJ/KJ mixing board ( Best KJ board EVER!!)
Crown 402 amplifier
DOD 32 band EQ
Furman AC controller
Pioneer twin tray CDG player
Pioneer 121 laser/cdg player
Sonic speakers
I shure wireless mic (i like to move around)
2 shure pg 58 mics ( I don't like singers straying too far)
3 samson mics (great back-ups)
Approximately 500plus cdg's
approximately 80 laser discs (complete pioneer 1-57)
Nine books for the song lists by artist and title.

The sound is incredibly clean, especially for the age of some of the equipment.
Thanks for allowing me to share my "package"
Donny "B"

I was using an old guitar amp, JVC single tray and a pair of 1960's vintage Kustom PA columns.

Now-
Behringer Eurorack UB2442FX-Pro mixer
JVC single tray
API DVD-701 DVD/VCD/CD+G rack mount player
Kustom KPM480 mixer/amp for monitors
Samsom F-1200 main amp
4 Kustom K10ML floor monitors
2 Kustom KSC15 mains
2 Madison EPI-10 with the mains (hey, they were freebies)
3 Shure SM58 (3 more in the back room)
1 Shure SM57 use for myself (4 more in the back)
1 Nady 1001 MK2 wireless
1 Vocopro DVM 100G video mixer with wireless video camera

since this system stays in the bar I'll also include the
InFocus Screen Play 1200 projector, mounted to the celing and
5'x8' 110"diag projection screen running through a
Panasonic DVD/VCR player

Some of this may be overkill for Karaoke but I also use it for Open Mic nights and live bands

Yea Lonnie, Lots I'd like to add to and upgrade. Don't forget it's still a hobby for me, 1 night a week at my own bar. I've gotten numerous comments on how good it sounds, even from other KJ's. Part of it is the building, used to be a movie theater. Now don't go thinking sloped floors and balconies. However in the main section the ceiling is 20' and on the sides 8'. Kinda squared off arched shape if you know what I'm saying. Thinking about adding a compressor/ limiter next.
