Ok, so I've heard several times that you guys think the cables are quite important to good quality sound. My question is what brand/kind/what you use/why?

1) Lets all just assume that I wouldn't construct my own cables, no matter the savings, because I just don't feel that it would be time efficient for me to do so. I can wire and construct them, I just don't want to, especially when some might have a lifetime warranty.

2) I've heard it said often that using XLR connections are preferable whenever possible to standard 1/4 connections. I think I heard Lon, Mcky, and others say that several times.

I've seen several brands out there: Mogami, Monster, Whirlwind, etc. What's the good, bad and ugly on them. I hesistate to say it, but if you consider one "JUNK" then say so. I understand them to be personal opinions and not the gospel.

I've used the live wire brand and have good luck with them (in a band enviroment).I just had a 50' mic cord go down last week, the cord was about 6-7 years old.Didn't have time to fix it before this weekend so I bought a 50' monster brand cord, the only thing I didn't like about it is when plugged into the mic the connector is to big to take the mic in and out of the mic clip on my mic stand.Had to use one of the chip clip style holders but I don't care for those.

I've been told good things about monster cords but I'll most likely go back to one that fits a standard mic clip.

All my cables from now on will be Mogami. They are expensive but in my opinion well worth it. If you are a mobile KJ/DJ you will put more wear and tear on your cables than a stationary application.

There are three Lifetime Cable brands that Guitar Center offers and Mogami is the only one that has not failed me. One of the brands (can't remember which) I had three cables out of the box in a row fail.

One thing that I found interesting is that unless GC can get the cable to fail in their store they will not replace the other brands. However they said if you purchase Mogami's they will never question it. To me that speaks volumes for GC's confidence in Mogami Cables.

I get chords only locally and with a life-time guarantee, and make sure I have spares.

I read many complaints about the monster cable ends not fitting through the mic clip, which I’m surprise monster didn’t address all this time.
Regardless, I wouldn’t buy monster products as I think, even though they’re good, they’re over-priced.

I use the Live Wire cables for my main singer microphone, and have never had a failure. But with as much audio equipment as I have, I wanted plenty of cables. Early on, I heard someone say, "Imagine how many cables you need, then double it. And you still won't have enough."

That is eighteen 20' mic cables. I put several on a hose reel for easy winding, and those are what I use for connecting powered speakers. I also use them for the extra singer mics and the DJ mic.

They are actually quite good, and I don't mind using them handheld. They lay pretty flat, and I haven't had one go on me yet.
