I have an Onkyo dual cassette recorder hooked up to my system, and a box of 15-minute music grade cassettes. Does anyone here have a show where they provide a recording to patrons of their songs?

I am trying to decide whether to make it optional to buy a cassette recording of their performance for $1 per song, or $1 per cassette (it would be listed in the front of the book, on a sign, or on the bottom of request slips to pay when you come up so I would know to record your performance). The guy I used to sub for gave them out to each person for free until he ran out. After that lots of people asked him for one, but he had to apologize and explain he didn't do that anymore. At $34 (plus shipping) for 100 cassettes, I can't see giving them away for free on a regular basis, especially considering the low KJ pay available around here.

I'd appreciate any suggestions, thoughts, experiences on this matter.

ok, first off it is illegal, a major copyright violation... you cannot even give them away!!!

What you do in your own home is fine, but when done out in public there is problems

Woah! I didn't know that. So I guess that would apply to video-taping gigs as well, huh? :(

to an extent you cannot video tape gigs.

If you are going to tape the gig and make a promo tape out that you can put on your website, say with 30 second clips, i don't think anybody will come beating your door down, however you cannot video a singer and give it out........ now... what your audiance does is not under your control

I've seen a lot of the tape thing . Even at what is the largest fair in Ohio. A large Karaoke company has about 4 or 5 sites at the fair doing just that. In fact the even video tape for $10.00.

I' not goin' to judge anyone, but its a well known fact. Tey havw been doin' it for years.

Its like the boot leg tapes that were made in the 70's and 80's. As long as there is a demand there will be a supply. Someone is always ready to take the risk and turn a profit.

I'm not sain' it's bad or good, just that it is a reality.

As Long as I can sing , I've got a noncommital aditude. I'll let the KJs and Djs solve this moral question.. I just came to sing.
