Well here they go again catering to a few individuals who can get their s**t together. After 2 years of commercials telling everyone that had a TV that analog was going bye bye and you needed to get a converter or some other method of watching TV because it was going digital now because some of those along our southern border did not get a converter or can not afford one they are thinking about putting off the date of Feb 17 2009 when it was supposed to change to sometime in June.
What is this country coming to when we change things that have been in the planing for years just to appease a few because they might not be able to watch their favorite program any more?
From the news broadcast that I saw last night the people they interviewed didn't even speak English.
Not does it enrage me that it might be put off but think of all the agencies that were waiting for the switch so they could use the abandoned frequencies for other things that were necessary to the security and safety of our country.
I for one am really tired of giving in to those that can't conform to the norm in this country and trying to push their old country's ways on us.
Just a rant

let me rant I am now a gringo in my own country which I offered my young life and receive less or poorer heath care than illegals. Then they have the gall of not respecting our laws and form hoodulum gangs. I pay my way and have sacrificed all my life. They want to come here and reap all the benifits and contribute nothing.

I don't understand why the federal government found it essential to mandate of all things a switch over to digital TV only with no analog TV transmission allowed. I find it hard to believe that they're really that concerned over the quality of our television viewing experience. While they're at it, maybe they should outlaw b/w TV sets, AM radio, mono recordings and cassette tapes. They're clearly inferior too! I don't get why it's such a big deal! I've never heard a real explanation.

This is why
An important benefit of the switch to all-digital broadcasting is that it will free up parts of the valuable broadcast spectrum for public safety communications (such as police, fire departments, and rescue squads). Also, some of the spectrum will be auctioned to companies that will be able to provide consumers with more advanced wireless services (such as wireless broadband).
Consumers also benefit because digital broadcasting allows stations to offer improved picture and sound quality, and digital is much more efficient than analog. For example, rather than being limited to providing one analog program, a broadcaster is able to offer a super sharp “high definition” (HD) digital program or multiple “standard definition” (SD) digital programs simultaneously through a process called “multicasting.” Multicasting allows broadcast stations to offer several channels of digital programming at the same time, using the same amount of spectrum required for one analog program. So, for example, while a station broadcasting in analog on channel 7 is only able to offer viewers one program, a station broadcasting in digital on channel 7 can offer viewers one digital program on channel 7-1, a second digital program on channel 7-2, a third digital program on channel 7-3, and so on. This means more programming choices for viewers.

I agree with you, and it's even worse the closer to the border you get.
I like you served my country and get a small pittance for the injuries I incurred while doing so.

OK, the info above is what I hadn't heard until you mentioned it. That makes more sense now as far as the government mandating this switchover. Thanks for the info LW.

Your Welcome
I think it's a great idea to switch, just as long as they leave the ham bands alone.

May I add?
1. If you bought a tv in the past two years, it's probably digital ready.
2. With the $40 coupon, you can get a converter for 0, 10, or $20 being the worst case senario.
3. If you have paid service(cable, etc.) they supply the converter, so you don't have to buy one.
4. The picture from the free tv digital signal is unbelievable compared to the analog, and there are more channels.
have I left anything out?

We've got DirecTV plus I got one of those $40 credit cards from the government for a converter to be used with portable TV's. The box only cost $10 extra. A good set of rabbit ears is needed or a roof top antenna if you are more than 25 miles or so from the transmitters. The picture with digital TV is great!

Karyoker, I agree with you but the blame doesn't fall to the immigrants, it falls to the bleeding heart liberals, the vast majority who are white and have overcompensated feelings of guilt.

Well I see that the few got their way and the switch will be pushed back to June 12th.
Hmmm I wonder if enough of us complained the could put off April 15th until the 15th of never.
Doubt it.

By the time they do it and all stations are at full power my digital TV will be broke.

I don't see why the gummint has to give coupons for the converter. Nobody gave me a coupon when I switched my DJ music to CD, and I am sure no one is going to pay some of the cost when I go to computer. Oh, I know why, I contribute to society and the economy...so no help for me. Damned deadbeats...get a job!
