It makes me nervous that some night I'm going to be out of luck altogesther with the players and mic channels.
We are using two Crown amps, one runs the mains and monitor and the other runs the subs. (Madison subs, I like very much. The aren't powered so using crossover).
I got tired of replacing cdg players from ebay...that's why I'm working on going all computer. ???Lisa, you don't look 52.

Both of the speakers have limited information available about them. Just from what I can see in contractors information and the limited owners manuals. I would think that you would probably be happier with the Carvin. I have limited experience with Carvin but the experience was good. The Carvin also supplies an extra 200 watts RMS, which is nothing to sneeze at especially in a sub. I'm pretty sure the Carvin would also have a higher resale value if you deside to upgrade in the future. There really isn't much to go on here, but knowing what I know about Carvin I would lean that way. They are known very building solid, well designed equipment.

I have a few Samson subs. They sound great BUT I know from experience, and have heard from other owners, that they run REAL hot. I have blown 2 amp components in my powered Samson subs. Samson was great about fixing them for free at an authorized speaker repair store near me while it was under warranty. However, because I blew both of them at separate time, I decided not to use them after the warranty expired, and am in the process of selling them and getting something else.
I would not recommend them if you are going to drive them hard, as the soldered amp parts just won't stand up to the heat stress. If you are going to drive them at lower SPLs, however, they sound really really good for the price.

That's what I thought and he was adamant about this for propagation. I'll go with the conventional wisdom on it. Thanks for reinforcing it!

There are definitely possiblities for comb filtering and other problems, but with one sub that is not an issue.
With two subs, if they are horn-loaded you usually want to center-cluster them if you can't get them far enough away from the wall. That may have been what he is referring to....
(This is just regurgitating what I have read, but it comes from LAB Lounge, a good source.)

Okay
My partner looked over the specs for the Carvin. After we called, he learned that the low end of the frequency response for the Carvin = 29h, actually better than the QSC's at 39h. So, while he was planning to save up for the QSC's, he agreed that we should grab a Carvin.
Just ordered it for 609.49 delivered. Thanx!

Wow, I thought this was my thread! .
I like everything I've heard about the Carvin, I just don't wan't to buy one and then wish I would have bought more fire power. Is this enough to get me over the hump and be able to do weddings with my Behringer 215As?

I typically like to double the power of my mains. The B215A push 250 watts RMS (the 400 is a peak rating), so I would want a sub that pushed at least 500 watts for that speaker. 700 is going to be fine.

Ok, you can have your thread back, don't feel to bad, my thread on the Thermaltake BlacX Sata external hard drive dock turned into something about IDE adapters.
There's never any guarantee that you might need more later. For most applications the Carvin would do fine. Make no mistake, it's not the equivalent to the QSC HPR118i nor the Yorkville LS800P, but it's still a respectable sub, especially at it's price point. You can get two Carvins for less than one of the other two. I have never heard of a wedding pushing exceedingly high sound pleasure levels so I see no reason that the Carvin couldn't keep up with your Behringer tops. Even running what I'm running, I have decided to double it for a big show coming up, there just aren't any guarantee's when it comes to live sound.

[quote="TOMMIE TUNES @ Mon Jan 26, 2009 12:27 pm"]Technical Pro makes a whole host of DJ Products (mostly sold on e-bay) that professional Disc Jockeys dismiss as lower than Vocopro junk, and are the butt of many jokes especially their "Blue Ice" Power Amps that put out a whopping 350 watts per channel into 8 ohms and will "light up any room with exciting blue lights". I'd say stay away... Far away![/quote
Hey Tommie, is that your set up in the back ground? What do you have?]

Down the road, if I wanted another sub, would/should I make sure the 2 match, at least in specs? Or could I buy a bigger or smaller one?

ripman8 and ericlater:
It'd be great if you could post some reviews/feedback after receiving and playing with the Carvin Sub for other interested users on this board as well. There are no online reviews yet so how about if you started it first...

I have a Carvin Sub. Bought it not long after they came out with the powered model. Love it!
About 3 years ago I left it plugged in and lightning got the amp. I had a Carvin DCM1001 amp that I wasn't using so I've powered the sub with it since then running the amp bridged.
I've always just used the one sub, I nicknamed it the "Pied Piper". It's always amazed me that I could start a show without it on and have a few dancers, turn on "Pied Piper" and the dancefloor fills Happens every time! Doesn't have to be loud, just "there".
I have several pieces of Carvin equipment, very satisfied with it all.

will do wildfins. Just remind me in a few weeks.
I went and watched a show last night, I'd been doing singing there in the last year but hadn't been there since I started hanging out here and buying my equipment. Peavy speakers and vocopro mics. I can sure tell the difference already between his equipment and mine, can't wait to try out the new sub!
