I'm so confused! I received a karaoke machine and want to download individual songs to make my own cd. Is there a way I can download songs that have the words (not just music) so I can learn the songs? Do I need to buy a special cd -- like the cdg's I see in the stores. Sorry I'm so ignorant about this -- but some of these Karaoke sites confuse me. Can you recommend a good site to sign up with?

Google: tricerasoft
They sell MP3+CDG downloads. The MP3 part is the music, the CDG file is the graphics.
Hope that helps?

If you're looking for information, do a little browsing here and on the technical questions forum...

Since this is your first post you may not be familiar with the search function or what to actual have as your search criteria ..ASK anything you want an you will get actual answers like the one from nlouch.
You can puchase custom made cdgs - This way you get the songs you want
you can google CUSTOM CDGS from various sites. You can also download MP3+G as suggested ..an mp3+g is actual 2 files ..the music MP3 and syncronized lyrics in the "G" for graphics file. Hopefully this was helpful

In addition to downloading the mp3 and cdg for each song you'll need to purchase a program to burn your karaoke songs onto a CD. I'm assuming you have a modern CD-R drive on your computer to use the program. I like Power CD+G Burner and you can buy it for around $39. It's very easy to use.

Thank you. I did go to that website and listened to couple songs but they only play the background music. After reading a little more on some Karaoke Q&A sites they mentioned in order to get the music, graphics and lead vocals, I would need a cdgm (multiplex) format. I can't tell on the Tricerasoft site if that's what I'd get. Looks like I would just get mp3plusg. Bear with me...I'm a boomer!

Thank you for replying. I'm on a mac and can burn cds. So, if I download a mp3g or a cdg-multiplex can I burn them to a regular cd. Or, would I have to buy a special type of cd?

Since you are on a Mac, do you have an iPod touch or iPhone? If you download the music from your iTunes to your iPod touch or iPhone, most of them will show lyrics on the screen. I found this to be helpful when learning a new song.

Really? Tricerasoft sell you a ZIP file, which contains the MP3 (music) and CDG (Synchronised lyrics).
The iPhone supports these industry standard formats?

I asked about this over in the technical issues forum so if anybody saw it there forgive me for the repeat question.
Basically I'm in the same quandary. I know you can download music + graphics files, but how easy is it to then burn those files to a CDG that will play in a standard CDG player? I assume that it's possible but I have no experience with computer karaoke files so I don't know. I'm on a PC, not a Mac. Somebody already suggested one piece of software that should do the job. Anything else I'd need?
Edit: Re: multiplex. A karaoke track listed as "multiplex" means that the lead vocal will be on the sound recording as well as on the printed lyrics. That's good for learning the song but then can be a bit of a pain after you've learned it and don't want the lead vocal interfering with your own voice as you're singing. On discs, you'll often get a multiplex version and a normal version of the same song, but it will be two separate files, which is important to know if you're downloading since presumably you'd have to pay for the song twice if you want both versions. Typically on a multiplex disc, the lead vocal is recorded on a separate channel than the rest of the song, so it may be possible to turn the lead vocal track down or off depending on the equipment you play the disc on, possibly with some loss of overall sound quality. I don't know if downloaded files work the same way. Hope this helps.

All you need is Power CDG Burner from PowerKaraoke.com. Alternatively Microstudio from MTU. Either one will do the trick for most any DVD writer on a PC.
On a Mac, that is a different story. I have never heard of similar programs for Apple. It might be easiest to copy your MP3+CDG files to a CD, then find a PC to run PowerCDG Burner on.

Not really. What I mean was just download the regular songs, either in MP3 for PCs and AAC for Macs from their iTunes store, not karaoke files. This was strictly in answer to how to see lyrics. You can not use the same file for karaoke but if you already have the song, you can see the lyrics with the music to learn it. It also works if you have the CD and rip it in to iTunes.
