Does anyone know of a good product or home remedy for the throat?
Sometimes I clear my throat so much that it gets irritated and it effects my singing.
I've seen several products advertised at various karaoke web sites and i'm wondering if these are any good.

Thanks in advance.

Rest, room temp. water, just say no to drugs and alcohol and warm up with vocal exercises. There are lots of tricks of the trade sprays and vapors and what have you that are on the market.

I heard "Entertainer's Secret" is good. Got a bottle last year at the Charbuster place in TN, but haven't used it yet (impulse buy). Bottle says entertainers-secret.com. Might be worth checking out.

I personally use "Entertainer's Secret" I got it from my vocal instructor in LA and it works extremely well also there is another product out called "Theyer's Throat spray" I have not used it, and don't know how it works, If you PM me of e-mail me I can give you multiple addresses where you can find both products from karaoke dealers & Music stores worldwide. There is also listings in "Singer" magazine.

I hope this helps

Entertainer's Secret is something that you can have oredered at your local CVS Drug Store (for about half the price of what the Karaoke Websites are offering it). I've used it a few times, and it's pretty good. The other spray that was mentiond (Thayers's has a very strong minty flavor to it... I don't like it as much as the Entertainer's Secret).

Another thing you can try are some Herbal Teas by a company called Traditional Medicines: Thraot Coat and Ginger Tea. You can find these at your local GNC and Vitamin Shoppe Stores. Also, some Supermarkets carry it.

I also like to chew on Crystalized Ginger. There is a brand that I use from Reed's. They have a website, so you'll have to do a search for that. Or, if you're lucky, some Health Food stores (not GNC or Vitamin Shoppe) carry it.

One other thing you can try is Slippery Elm Lozengers (you can get this at The Vitamin Shoppe.

I've used Aloe Vera juice/gel with great success. I buy a large bottle - pour it into a smaller spray bottle and use when I need it.

If the "over the counter" things don't work. I have had to go see an Ear, Nose & Throat specialist. and i was informed sometimes acid reflux causes alot of the singing throat problems.. and it usually comes down to a prescription gargle for your throat & another medication. but I can really tell you that I had to do it for 4 weeks and it really helped! :D

Sometimes it's worth the trip if you can't sing the normal lengths you know you can.

Cue,

Thanks for telling me about CVS. I ordered 4 bottles of Entertainer's Secret from CVS this past week. Took about 2 days to get in, and cost about $3.70 per bottle. I haven't yet used it personally myself, but my daughter said it seemed to work great.

Since Sprocket mentioned it, that reminds me of something else you can get at your local Drug Store. It's called Alkolol. It's used for gargling (just dilute with water). If they don't have it, they can order it.

Hubby has been singing in bands for 25 years and now we're doing karaoke...When we were first married, his mother introduced me to Apple Cider Vinegar! Put about a teaspoon of ACV in the bottom of a glass, and fill the glass the rest of the way up with water. Set it on the kitchen sink and, whenever you walk by, take a drink! You can also put honey in it too.

Also, hubby wraps something around his neck, and takes a jog up the road. Gets the blood flowing and fresh air.

When you get to the bar, a shot of tequila warms you up for the night! haha!

This may sound crazy, but I've tried it and is seems to work. A professional singer friend of mine said to stay away from dairy products the day of singing. She said that you don't have to clear your throat as much. Only problem is if you sing every day !!!!

Beach,
This is true so I am told.. such products as milk .. but I sing on the average probably for fun everyday but seriously live or for recording maybe 1 to 2 days a week straight. it's rare anymore I will go a 3-4 days straight anymore.. but that definately will be changing soon again.
Good news just arrived about the same time as the sale of some equipment. :D  8)

Isn't life great?

My sister used to sing opra (not my bag of tea) and says the same thing. It has something to do with restricting the ability to get the full use of your throat. Some sort of restrictions associated with the control of the muscles, restricting your range and quality.

Thanks everyone for all your remedies. I've tried some of them and it's been helpful. I bought some Entertainers Secret. I've never heard of a CVS drug store so i ordered it on Entertainers Secret website (kinda pricy through them). I got a note with my package saying it can be obtained at any drug store in the USA. It's pretty good stuff. Cutting out dairy products helps quite a bit too. I'm gonna try them all. Thanks again for all your tips.
