I'll have to try that! But this Thursday my first gig is at a bar that is a pretty young crowd, a little gangbanger, I think I will play that scenerio by ear.

You've all given me lots to think about as I search for my host identity starting Thursday night. I know I won't be a bump on a log like all the others I've seen in my area. I plan on being a little zany!

I still say if you haven't tried it---Minnie the Moocher!

I do have and do use Minnie The Moocher for a sing a long. I wouldn't put it in my top 10 because while most people think they know the song, when they sing it for the first time they will most assuredly get lost.

Goodnight Sweetheart was by the Spaniels circa 1954.

Please note that it's hard to dispute that I Will Survive is a "woman's" song, but when I queue it up many of the guys sing right along. That's also true for These Boots Are Made For Walking .

We have gotten real lucky with this...we go right out into the audience and pick people out...(depending on the crowd) for our sing alongs...Paradise by the dashboard lights always works but we need a bunch of people for this and Just the ladies!! Once Bitten Twice shy works well because everyone can remember MY MY MY...Wanted Dead or Alive...But one of my favorites is Hank Williams Family Tradition...Hank Why do you drink..Too Get Drunk...Hank Why do you roll smoke...Too get stoned...I don't think I have ever heard this song without someone doing that...great fun...

Try playing The Beatles "I Saw Her Standing There" and bring the volume down at the "Woooo" part. You'll definitely hear how many people in the bar are singing along, and if it's a little later in the night, it's just about everyone.

*grin* When I first saw this post, I thought "MTM" referred to "Who can turn the world on with her smile..." Then I realized you meant "Minnie the Moocher". I don't know the song that well, but my mom used to call me Minnie the Moocher when I was little, because I would mooch food off of her. She said she used to offer me a drink of soda and I would drink the whole thing! Or she'd offer me a bite of a hot dog, and I would take the whole hot dog and leave her holding the bun! (I don't remember doing either of those things, but that's what she told me.)
