I have one like Barry posted... but the bottom is VERY heavy... one guy wanted to swing it, began to pick it up and looked over at me and put it down sheepishly! LOL!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I picked up THIS STAND from Sam Ash.

Works well. Looks good. $29. It's better if you have a store in your area though so you aren't paying UPS to ship a hunk of cast iron around (the base is heavy).

Sometimes I wish I didn't have a mic stand though because the drunks love to play with it and pretend they are Steven Tyler/Usher. Once a night someone tries to do that trick where you thrown the stand and make it pop back up with your foot. It never works.

Don't they have those ankle or wrist weights cheap that could just be dropped down over the shaft?

Find some small weights from a weight bench and add 10-15 pounds to it. This will detour the stand twirlers and make the stand more stable. It will also work great as a door stop when loading in and out.

I went with the 3 leg type because they're easier to pack up in a case and move. No bent legs yet bit a missing tip off one of the legs. I'll see how long they last and decide on what to replace them with.

Ease of travel trumped all in this case.

It WILL happen  Customers have found a way to jack up every kind of mic stand I've ever tried. The three-legged ones wouldn't stand a chance.

The mic stands with 3 legs tip over too easy when bumped. I need the cast iron bases to keep the crazy drunk people from knocking them over. It's extra weight to lug around but has saved my mics many times.

I use the tripods with no problems yet. Going on 5 years.

I use two Proline mic stands that you can get at guitar center. They are $20 + $10 for the mic Clippy.

I use two table top mic stands. Ace Karaoke sells a nice one on a solid mini-base with the mic clip for only $10.

I have another table top one that I paid about $15 from another place. Greg's Pro Audio
