Had a friend tell me something along the lines of this topic that nearly
made me ill. He went to a karaoke bar in Council Bluffs last week and got
into the rotation. Before he got called up, he went into the restroom and
noticed a guy leaving a toilet stall who didn't wash his hands. You guessed
it, the unclean patron was ahead of him in the rotation. So he pulled his song,
finished his drink and left.

I saw a news show several months ago, I can't recall which one, might have been Dateline, and they tested the effectiveness of several anti bacterial hand soaps. They then did cultures after using each different soaps. It was amazing what they found, basically unless you srcub down much like a doctor, you know like vigorously scrubbing for several minutes before rinsing the soap off, these soaps did not get rid of much bacteria or germs.
I'm sure wipes help, but the effectiveness is probably a lot less than you might think. Unless of course you disasemble the mic and scrub it down. Of course then you have to wipe down all of the door knobs, mic stands, drink glasses.....I think I will stay home till the cold season is over!
I am actually just now getting over a cold and my voice is still not back to normal yet. It sucks when your voice cracks right in the middle of a high note, good for a few laughs though. Rudy.

Hi everyone
I've just returned from 3 weeks of what should have been a restful, carefree and healthy holiday in the sun. WRONG
The first 2 weeks I, and then my wife were plagued by flu-like symptoms. Shivering, coughing, sore throat - you name it.
I was doing my regular Karaoke show right up to going away and I'm convinced I caught it from one of the many (coughing) singers I had over the last few weeks.
On quiet nights I sing myself quite a bit and have used their mics (cos they had the effects already turned on them). - NEVER AGAIN !!
I've also handed out my presenter mic when they've wanted 3 - NEVER AGAIN !!
I do get a twinge of selfishness when I think like this (i.e. they can all spread their germs amongst themselves but leave me out) but Hey ! We're there every gig, every week from start to finish so we're prime candidates for catching everything going.
Lets look after ourselves !

Watch this video. It is unbelievable: 'WASH YOUR HANDS'
If you don't ever watch videos, make an exception and check this out.
You may want to pay more attention to microphone hygiene after this:

Well, didn't have to convince me in the first place....but those in doubt of how dangerous handling something somebody else has handled with dirty hands...they need to watch this!
As I get older, not getting sick is more important. My mic stays just that now...MY MIC!!!!
(and being diabetic....makes it 100 times more important again!)
