Since my 2 powered speakers are using the 2 stereo out jacks from my MG124CX mixer, how do I connect my powered sub woofer?

Which subwoofer are you using?

that's pretty coincidental, you just got both the mixer and sub that i just purchased!
To answer your question - plug the sub into the mixer and one of your tops/mains into the sub "output" (creating what's called a "daisy chain")
The other main goes directly into the mixer.
On the sub, make sure you're selected the following settings:
a) The "crossover frequency" button should be out representing 120 Hz
b) The "crossover bypass switch" should be out
c) The "high output pass" should be in representing that the high frequency is being passed to your "tops"

I've had the mixer since november, just got the sub tonite. That was all pretty easy, so I'm going to power up my mixer and then my speakers. Hope nothing blows up!

OK, I did all that, powered up, one main is running thru the sub and the main is playing but the sub is not.

Is there absolutely nothing coming out of the sub?
To be sure, turn off the main and listen. You should hear the "thump".
If you set the "bypass switch" to the opposite setting from what I recommended, you will here the "full" range of sound coming through the sub, if that's what you want!
Also, check the "gain" knob. I believe it's basically "off" when it arrives

I had everything set the way you said.
I turned off both mains, then I could hear a bit coming out of the sub. I changed the setting to crossover and the sub came alive somewhat. It still has less volume than the other main that is running solo. The level knob is set around zero. I tried turning that up but not a big effect

I guess, if we had three outputs on the mixer we could run the sub and tops separate. But the idea of the sub, assuming a full compliment of speakers, is to handle the bottom. Turn up your "gain" knob on the sub and turn up the "low" knob on the mixer. That should increase the volume on the sub substantially.
When the full range of sound is coming out of my sub (with the bypass switch "on"), there is no sound coming from the top speaker daisy chained through the sub.
Check that out
Oh..... and when I suggested earlier that you "turn of the main", what I am suggesting is that you turn the volume off at the speaker control for the top connected to the sub.

Backwards post reply--that is what I did, but of course I had to turn my other main down to to even hear the sub with my ear right in front of the sub. When i turn the sub to bypass, I have to turn the other main down significantly to get the sub to boom. Then hardly anything is coming out of the main.
I understand the sub shouldn't dominate the sound or vibrate the windows but I really don't feel I'm getting the full benefit out of the sub.
I have to shut down for the night and tear down and get ready for my show tomorrow. I am using the house speakers anyway so I will work on this tomorrow night. Thanks for helping.

Ripman,
Sorry that I had provided just "part of the story". I hadn't initially realized your disappointment because I was so pleased with my configuration. We do, however, have a lot more flexibility in configuring the equipment than I had originally indicated.
Frankly, when I had offered my initial response, I had only the sub and one 10" Peavey connected. This morning, I added my two 12" mains to the mix. Everything is working perfectly.
Also, and, contrary to what I posted earlier, the Yamaha gives you 4 stereo output, (2) XLR and (2) 1/4". So, I eliminated the daisy chain this morning and sent "everything", other than the 10", to the speakers from mixer. I used a 1/4" line to go directly to the sub and used the two xlr lines to go directly to both mains from the Yamaha mixer.
AND, this is most important, using different settings on the sub than what I had initially suggested, while using a daisy chain from the sub to a main, you can get the full range of sound from both the sub and the main that you were looking for!
To accomplish that, you have to set the "High Pass" button to the out position and the "Crossover Bypass" to the in position! Also, if you "play around" with different configurations of those two buttons, you'll get different results!
Keep in mind, though, the "High Pass" button is supposedly designed to protect tops that can't handle the sub's low frequencies.
Sorry for the slight mis-direction and incomplete info. I was so utterly satisfied with the configuration I am using, I gave no consideration to other possibilities.
I do understand your unnecessary, but temporary disappointment. You should now be able to configure your rig ANYWAY you desire. I guess in some venues I'd want the sub set to full range? I don't know? So far, I like the idea of leaving the sub to handle just the "lows"!

I'm a bit confused, which is easy to do. If it's a SINGLE powered sub, couldn't you just hook it up to the monitor output of the mixer and leave the tops out of it?

That's how I'm connected I find it to be the best, I tried using the high past filter on the sub for the highs but I hate not been able to adjust the volume on each set, so this way you are more in control... Just need to keep the EQ at neutral for the lows as you don't need more bass, that's the sub's job, not the highs

Once y'all get everything working, I'd be interested in hearing your comments on the Carvin subs' performance.
I've been looking into subs recently, and can't decide between getiing the same two powered Carvins...LS1801NA...(around $1200) or one Yorkville, QSC, etc... what do y'all think??
Any other options I should be considering??
I currently have two Behringer B215A's run through a Yamaha MG124cx. In addition, I have just ordered the DBX Driverack 260 w/ the RTA mic...that should be here in a couple days.
Thanks,
Mike

Well something is either not hooked up/dialed in/or working right. The sub should POUND. Yes window rattle pound. If you aren't getting your messed up while it's turned up & your head is directly in front of it (j/k), then something is wrong.
Try hooking it up by itself - no main cabs at all. What does it do? Did the main cab that was hooked up to it sound loud or was it quiet too?

My partner came over today to hear/see the new Carvin sub.
He had gotten involved before I had ordered it and spoke with someone at Carvin about the specs.
Anyway, he was quite, quite impressed with what he experienced after putting it through several different configurations and testing it out.... and his favorable impression was in comparison to a QSC sub he had been thinking we were going to get! In fact, he's anxious to buy another Carvin sub. So, to Lonman and others that turned me unto and recommend that Carvin, I cannot say thank you enough!
Of note, he did conclude that 80Hz rather than the 120Hz setting recommended by Carvin produced better results with the 12" QSC's and posed no threat of damage to them!
Also of note: This is the first time my partner really got to put the 10" powered Peavey "through it's paces". I set it on a pole atop the Carvin today and placed it in the center of the room between the two QSC's. The effect was awesome! Just amazing! Of course, the sub should have been in a corner and I am just trying to imagine the sound if it were!
And while my partner thought that the Peavey was a great buy (as a monitor) when we checked it out at Sam Ash, after hearing it today, he now thinks it sounds better than the EV's he had for a short time before returning them to Sam Ash for the QSC's!!
I had originally purchased the Peavey as an inexpensive monitor. I liked it so much that I immediately order another (they're out of stock). I am more satisfied than ever with that decision following today's evaluation by my partner of the Peavey!

Yes, after reading Eric's post I rerouted the sub to my mixer using a 1/4 jack(instead of the daisy chain) and it about blew me away. To adjust the volume on it however I have to adjust from the laptop volume as that volume switch affects the sub about 3 to 1 over the mains. Otherwise it's all sub and no main. I do have a bit of hum going thru, maybe it's because the cable I'm using isn't as high quality as the xlr's I bought?
