I just never can make it to end of the movie.

I think they should have a disclaimer about how these are trained professionals and you should NOT try this at home. A fellow could get hurt. It was embarrassing explaining to the nurse how my big toe got hung in the ceiling fan.

The countries of China and India are not Muslim but have a similar under representation of Nobel Prizes (4 and 7). The lack of Chinese economic Nobel prizes has not prevented them from owning a big chunk of the US economy.

Nobel prizes are EXTREMELY political and are much less a measure of accomplishment than how powerful your friends are in the European and US press (especially for Lit and Peace).

THe best poet in the world could write in Chinese or Arabic, but since so few of the people voteing on the Nobel Comittes read those languages they are not going to win (and much lit does not translate well).

As for Science it has occured in the US and Europe almost exclusively for the last 100 years. While there may be several million Musllims now living in the "West" they are largely first or second generation and not fully integrated into the society (yet).

Please think about what you are saying. If it were not for the great Arab empires during the dark ages most of the enlightened learning and sciences of the Greeks and Roman Empire would have been lost. The Muslim nations of the Middle Ages didn't persecute the Jews, the Christians did. All Muslims did was tax them as non-believers. Christians in that period burned books and repressed knowledge, perhaps similarly today in some Muslim nations.

Most Muslims are peace loving but are very passionate. This is a religion that at its core rewards correct behavior and piousness with a very highly structured paradise mythos. It is when a religion is hijacked by radicals or nut bars then we are all in trouble. In the US lynching and acts of terrorism have been done in the name of Christ. I think those people are not true Christians. No more that the zealot who shot Rabin in Israel or the settlers who confiscate land from their rightful Arab owners are not true Jews.

There are many forces on all sides that don't want peace due to whatever political agenda they may have - Fundamentalist Christians who see the Arab-Israeli war as part of their vision of the rapture or Jewish settlers who use The Old Testament to justify forcing Arabs off their land due to the vision of Zion and the old state of Judah (a 2000 year old belief) or fundamentalist or radical Islamic clerics who seek power and repression in the name of Jihad. Even in the US the CIA has replaced or undermined legitimate governments that were moderate but not compliant with the US political agenda. This is true of other Western governments. Remember Suez or Iran in the 50's.

Israel has got to be brought to task for the heavy handed response to the Gaza incident or ruling the Territories. Too many innocent people died for no good reason other than being in the way. There are moderates in the population but if all there is suffering and misery that the radicals take control. Stop the growth of settlements, give land back and allow a state to at least provide some dignity to people then you might wee some change. The moderates in all populations eventually exert their power and push the radicals out.

If the situation gets grave enough that Sunni and Shiite factions ever truly join forces against Israel then we are all in deep doo-doo. Unfortunately most of the rhetoric I have seen in this posting provides justification for those political agendas that endorse hate and intolerance.

As a Canadian (raised in a Caucasian Christian family) - I fully support my country's soldiers in Afghanistan but I think Iraq was a huge waste of time, money and resources. All it did was to justify the third world's view of the US as a great bully. I am so happy to see George Bush and the Neo-Con advisors gone from the White House. I believe the Barak Obama will defend legitimate US interests and stop these stupid political wars or threats in Iran and Iraq. I have complete admiration for the US military but it is a shame so many have paid a price in Iraq for a misguided or callous political leadership.

I apologize to anyone who may not like my views but the thread of this discussion stirred some passions in my thoughts. The world will be a better place thru peaceful coexistence and dialogue. This does not mean be a door mat, strength is just as important in peace as in war.

We need to find a way to deliver aid without a political agenda. In war torn and ravaged areas of the world groups like Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran are delivering aid to their populations much better than the West. Their aim is to win the hearts and minds before making those populations instruments of war. Our aim appears to win the hearts and minds of the ruling class not the population - this has been our classic mistake for the last 75 years.

Well that is my rant for the day. I would enjoy any feedback. I firmly believe that every person has the right to exist and to live in some form of stability/comfort. This should not be achieved on the backs of others or by the death of innocents no matter their religion, colour or political belief. No one's way of life is the right way. Every nation or ethnic group has to find its own way.
