Hi this is my first post here, At the moment the amp I use to power 2 x 200watt speakers is a 500 watt 2 x 250 watts rms @ 4 ohm amp or 150 watt at 8 ohms it has xlr connections for up to four speakers. Recently I have got hold of a stage monitor that runs at 200 watts. My question is will i be able to run all the speakers together without overheating or damaging my amp in any way. Pheww ok thanks, any help would be very greatful, thank you. Ross

Well it would be more helpful to know actual model numbers of the speakers & amps in question. Power ratings vary greatly from manu to manu in how they label their power.

Well I can't find any real info on the speakers & the amp I found less info than you gave in the OP.
Any if the speakers and monitor are rated at 8 ohms each, you could run a monitor on one channel & the speakers on the other. As long as the speakers rating doesn't go below 4 ohms, it should be fine for the amp as it seems to be rated down to 4 ohms. If the speakers are all rated at 4 ohms, then no you would not want to tie to 4 ohm speakers together as you can blow the amp.
Now without knowing what the speakers program power rating is, it could be that you are going to be underpowering the speakers which could possibly blow them if turned up to any heavy volume levels - especially at the 4 ohm load.

No, that really doesn't tell me anything more. It should say somewhere on the monitors & speakers if they are 4 ohm or 8 ohm. This will matter for the amp.

And also there are two right channel xlrs and two left on the amp. So what configuration of speaker and monitor would you recomend if any.

Well the monitor is 8 ohms.
IF the speakers are both 8 ohms, then i'd connect the monitor to one channel by itself & the speakers on the other channel together.
IF the speakers are NOT 8 ohms (4 ohms), then you do not want to hook the monitor up, keep a speaker on a channel each as you could blow the amp by going below the 4 ohm load.

Are you playing in a club? If so, 9 out of 10 times stereo isn't beneficial anyway as one side is going to hear instruments the other side won't and vice versa. Just run your mixer all mono to comensate. Been running live sound for over 20 years & karaoke for about 19 & it's a rare case to find a club that is stereo friendly.

The advantage also to connecting the monitor on it's own channel (provided the amp has 2 separate volume attenuators) is you can control the volume of the monitor indpendant from the mains.
