Does anyone own this or know what this set is, ie. who the manufacturer is?

Is this Supercore or All Hits or Sweet Georgia Brown in disguise?

I already have all of those. I don't need a duplicate collection.

Thanks

No, they are not any of those labels in disguise, and they are absolutely HORRIBLE- almost every single track. I own three, which have been removed from my case, AND my books. This is the ONLY label that has given me reason to do this- they are that bad.

Actually they are repackaged SGB. A friend of mine let me borrow her set and I compared them to my SGB set. Same audio tracks and same video, complete with the same graphics and errors in the same places, just replaced the SGB logo with Idol Makers logo.

After reading KarenB's post, I did a little checking up and it seems that she is one hundred per cent correct....which led me to look for a previous post by JoeChartreuse where he claims that SGB is a pretty good set of discs.

Here is a quote from Joe:

"I'm one of those that think that SGB does have some terrific tracks- MUCH better than those of the so-called premium brands. They are, however, in the minority. Nevertheless, this set provides a huge range of genre plus tracks hard to find elswhere. I recommend it as an inexpensive starter."

How can that quote be consistent with his statement in this thread where he says that Idol Makers CDG's are crap when they are in fact the same tracks as Sweet Georgia Brown that he recommends in the quote above???? I'm confused :?

1) .....look for a previous post by JoeChartreuse where he claims that SGB is a pretty good set of discs.

2) I'm confused :?

1) Poor bored Bruce. Per your own posted quote of my words, ( Note the part about "SOME terrific tracks " and " in the minority") where do I claim it's a pretty good set? I claimed it was a good inexpensive STARTER because of range of titles, not quality.

After our last debate I went back and read a lot of your old. posts. Apparently you spend a lot of time twisting MANY peoples' posts, not just mine- and in this case you just happened to do a bad job of it. I now understand that this is how you fill your time, as you rebuff both friend and companionship in your life. This leads me to-

2) Yes, you are confused. Your life's priorities would best be focused on tangible relationships, filling your time in a more productive manner, and making you a happier person. Again, my phone awaits you.

Also, your "little bit of research" must have been VERY little. Yes, tracks were shared between SGB and other labels, but this is not a duplicate set.

Examples: "Family Tradition", "For The Good Times", and "Forever And Ever, Amen" Appear on Idol Makers, but NOT on SGB. Hence, not the SAME as SGB.

Karen:: You may well be correct in that many of the same tracks were shared between the two, but not all, as shown above.

Again, I only have 3 of these discs ( which include the non-duplicate songs above- Family Tradition being especially bad).

However, the 3 that I have ( actually HAD- I chucked them) were uniformly horrible, audio tracks were much lower in volume and differently timed than SGB. Again this is only a 3 disc sample. They may well be a mix and match of different tracks.

I will re-state myself: IMHO, given the samples that I have heard, I wouldn't buy this set. However, I stand by my true statements as quoted above regarding SGB. SOME good tracks, and as an inexpensive set with an eclectic choise of titles, worth the money as a starter set.

STOGIE: My comments to Bruce may sound a bit out of character and somewhat harsh. I am sorry they had to be included in this post, but Bruce is just a bit carmudgeonly, and I didn't want you to waste money without having as much info as possible...

Hi Joe,

Actually, while not in the 68 disk set, all three of the songs you listed are in the SGB tool box sets. I think they just pulled a compilation from all their sets and relabeled them.

That said, I agree with you about the basic SGB set. There's just enough unique material and different arrangements in the set that make it worth having if you don't have to pay a lot for it. I like a lot of it and the set is in my book (though I do try to steer my singers to other versions when asked).

Thanks, Karen. I only have the 10 disc tool box and didn't see them there. Are they in the 20 disc box, or did I just miss them in the 10 disc??

I say the music volume and timing are different on many tracks. This could mean that these may be the same tracks, but have been re-recorded very badly...

On the side: I just noticed that Stogie included SuperCore in the list of disguised labels. I can GUARANTEE no connection there. SuperCore is almost uniformly way superior to any of the others...

If you checked with KJPro, Joe, you would find that all of those Idol Makers tracks that you pointed out are all on SGB discs. Poor Bored Bruce always has time to point out when people talk out of both sides of their mouths and don't know WHAT it is they're talking about. Nice try at back pedalling though. You recommend that people should buy SGB but tell them to avoid Idol Makers when they are one in the same. Why is that? Do you like the title screens better? LOL If the volume on a Idol Maker disc is lower than the SGB track, can't you just raise the volume?

Since we're comparing Apples to Apples here, literally....Joe is telling you to buy the apples in the red bag but don't buy the Apples in the blue bag, even though the Apples are identical with a simple tweak of the volume control. Maybe Joe's hearing is a little off and he shouldn't be judging tracks in the first place. He tends to down grade Sound Choice in favor of the Supercore set too. I don't know if I would put much faith in his EARS.

Stogie, if you have all of the songs on SGB or All Hits already, do not buy the Idol Makers discs because they have the exact same music tracks. Karen B is absolutely correct in her assessement of these tracks.

Poor Bored Bruce may once again have skewed vision regarding my posts ( a new lense precription might help? Failing eyesight is another priority to work on, I guess :P ), but in the end he gives the same advice as I do- don't waste your money on the set. It may well be re-packaged SGB ( I trust Karen's judgement), but if so, it was re-packaged and re-recorded badly.

Bruce, reading and retention 101. To summarize, what I said about SC is it's not as great as it's cracked up to be. Many Mfrs. produce some tracks that are superior, including SuperCore.

I DID say that buying the SuperCore set in the beginning is a much better investment than SC, until you know the venue.

Yes, many of SuperCore's tracks ARE superior to SC.

For that matter, many of Music Maestro's oldies ( especially Elvis) are definitely superior to SC

MOST of Chartbuster's country is superior to SC.

Virtually ALL of Zoom's tracks are AT LEAST equal to SC, and many better.

A FEW SGB songs such as Son Of A Preacher Man & Total Eclipse are superior to SC.

White Rabbit from All Hits is superior by far to SC

All that being said, I STILL consider SC to be a high quality manufacturer- just not the god of karaoke that SOME think they are.

Skew away...... or maybe go out and try making friends.

There are close to 20,000, maybe more Sound Choice tracks out there; I'm not sure of the exact number and you name a handful of SGB brands tracks that you claim are better  . Music Maestro does have very good Elvis Presley tracks and Chartbusters have many good country tracks. There's a reason why SC has a reputation of being the best and there is a reason why SGB is out of business. Cream rises to the top and crap eventually sinks to the bottom. I wonder how many people go to custom karaoke download sites looking to pay top dollar for SGB tracks? Are they even available for sale in that format?

I have a set of idol makers. I've had no problems with them, many of the songs sound great to me. On the other hand, every track I've had problems with has been sound choice. I have both foundation sets
