I have several I go to regularly, and they welcome me with open arms. I don't say any of those things even if I think them, of course. My favorite show has *several* deficiencies. Their library is lousy, their mics are junk, and they have no idea how to adjust sound. But I enjoy it anyway. Other shows, not so much and I go back a couple of times then not.[quote]

Jamkaraoke and anyone else, Why not just have discussions here and let everyone participate and let things progress as they will?
We all need to express ourselves and some times there are fun, interesting discussions and other times things get heated and there may be a bit of friction-JUST LIKE LIFE.
If you can't participate in discussions on a very well moderated and for the most part very well behaved BB like this without a high level of frustration, then you need to take a step back.
If you're so frustrated, you need to go sit on a beach somewhere or go to the movies, exercise, have a couple of beers or in other words-GET A LIFE.
Stop trying to control other people and how people here interact, instead just manage your own behavior and how you interact with others. Not everyone is going to agree and not eveyone is going to get along-SO WHAT?
Got an opinion? Voice it. Need some technical help or information? Ask and ten people will come to your aid. Got a funny or interesting story to tell? Please share it. This place is what WE make it.

Let me think like a KJ
"I've got the power to run the show, not the audience"
"He's just drinking water, well maybe his song might just be a little later in the rotation"
"Hey its my buddy, let's get him up a lil quicker and he's doing his song that he's perfected"
"Bah, I'm not that drunk, another jager shot and I'll probably stop the rotation so I can sing two myself"
"I know I'm married with kids, overweight, and bald, but this hot girl is getting me a drink and flirting with me, how can I not let her get another song in?"
"I know I play this Kid Rock song all the time, but I like to hear it from beginning to end"
"Oh no it's the off note girl, but maybe I can back her up a lil since my perfect voice won't keep other customers from walking"
"What this couple is from out of town, its not like they'll be returning, favoring the regulars helps my business"
"Okay bar owner if you want me to play the Electric Slide at midnight and yes even though we drink smoke play texas holdem, while bar fights and the occasional date rape occurs, I will still keep it no profane songs"
But of course this isn't what the KJs here are thinking, I could just be thinking of the non-members.

Ok, then, let me think like a "singer"
I am the best singer there is. You should let me sing more.
I drink enough to pay your wages. Let me go next!
My best friend should be next. He/she is almost as good as me!
I'm not that drunk. I can sing even better than when I'm sober!
I'm so hot.. I'll give you what you need if you let me sing next.
Why won't you skip that terrible singer to let me go ahead?
How dare you let someone else sing MY song!
Have I made my point yet?
atxklown, your post was insulting, to say the least.
Grow up, will ya?
Not all KJs are like that, and dare I say that NONE on this board are even CLOSE to what you are insinuating, just as the singers on this board can hardly compare to the ones I've tried to paraody here in response to your inane post.
I suggest you do your research before you start slinging.

In the VERY BEGINNING of this thread, Jam stated "Singers and Kj's will ALWAYS have different points of view." Sooo!!! Why is EVERYONE trying to CHANGE the other ones point of view. IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN. Just live with the fact that nobody is right, AND, nobody is wrong. Just DIFFERENT perspectives. HALF FULL, HALF EMPTY.
That's what's wrong here, could EGO have something to do with it? Just because you're a Kj, doesn't mean you've FORGOTTEN how to be a SINGER. Just because you're a SINGER, doesn't mean you can't think like a BUSINESS OWNER (Kj). If the singers at ANY of our shows had such DISDAIN for the Kj, we wouldn't have a following. If the Kj's had such DISDAIN for the singers, they'd be out of business. Am I over simplifying this, or what? It's a TWO WAY street, both needing the other.
NOW, I'll ask again, ARE WE HAVING FUN YET?
My 2 cents

"THIS" is TOO amazing to resist:
It seems that some, (I guess singers), take particular exception to a KJ disagreeing with singers about matters of rotation management and filler music. And in response, some have "branded" said KJ's as: not receptive to other viewpoints; desirous of stifling others speech; wanting to change the minds of others, etc.
Rather, IMO, I found that singers are trying to change KJ's who don't run their shows the way they, as singers, would like. What evidence is there to support this perception? Well, I as a KJ/businessperson KNOW I can't tell a customer what to like! I, as a KJ/businessperson, can't stop a customer from going elsewhere; I, as a KJ/businessperson has to establish a formula that maximizes the number of people who frequent my business.
I think, more likely, that what we have experienced of late on this board is/are singer(s) trying to indicate they KNOW BETTER as to how KJ's should conduct their business, and it's been "threatened" that if we KJ's don't heed such ideas: people will leave our show before its over; they'll go elsewhere; they'll tell others about our "lousy" show; and we'll go out of business!
And while, as a KJ/businessperson, I know most of, if not all the pros and cons of using different formats in different venues; and while, as a KJ/businessperson, I know the consequences of picking a format that maybe objectionable to certain regular singers; and MOST IMPORTANT I KNOW that I must be successful to justify my investment
NONETHELESS... I am expected to accept lecturing about how to run a karaoke show from someone who has no investment in running karaoke, no risk, and hasn't sat down and planned out the "models" of how to formulate a show under differing cirumstances.
And while experienced KJ's know that their success will rise and fall based upon their ability to "read" the entire venue; we have singers who are only concerned with us "reading them" and satisfying their own personal agenda. The complaining singer(s), of late, don't care to consider what I, as a KJ/businessperson already know. They just want to go and on and and on and on about what they want!
How long do we, as experienced and knowledgeable professionals, people who likely started off as singers, need to hear the diatribes of a handful of self-centered people about what they think we're doing wrong? Why can't they just accept that there is a reason for vanilla and chocolate ice cream?
And, ironically, when I as a KJ explain why in response to a criticism I explain why I've chosen vanilla for a particular show, the discussions starts all over again, as if we didn't "hear it all" in the first place. I can only assume it starts again and will restart until the KJ's that are not "towing the line" agree with the objecting singers!
How many times would those of you who sing like to be told by a KJ that there is something wrong with the songs you select to sing in regard to the venue at which the show is conducted, songs that you love to sing? e.g. the crowd doesn't want to hear rap, sing a bluegrass song!

Totally agree... But will add the following
Yes, as many I started out as a singer who could not stand KJ's who ran a rotation full of FAVORITES and FILLER MUSIC and a KJ who sang 2 songs before I got up to sing one. I admit it use to frustrate me when there was a long list of people and I had to wait for all of that. On the other hand I would never complain of the KJ's equipment choice or lack of quality. I would just go to a show ..WHERE I ENJOYED MYSELF. I don't blame singers for wanting to sing as many songs as possible with as little as wait as possible. That's why they came out for KARAOKE NIGHT.
When I started this topic it was not meant to pit SINGER against KJ HOST but just the opposite.. It was meant as suggested... to to SEE things from the other side of the fence when being asked an opinion or suggestion.

PEACE AND LOVE
PEACE AND LOVE Angel
to you also, and to all here who have found Karaoke and the enjoyment it brings.
We here need to try to support each other and always remember that there is something wonderful that brings us together here.
On my website it says "Music is LOVE" and I mean that more than I can express.
I feel blessed and so fortunate to be able to share music with others. It fills me with a great feeling of happiness and enthusiasm for life. Lets all lighten up a little and take a deep breath, be thankful to be alive, shake off the stress, bother and worries.
Karaoke can literally change peoples' lives. Lets' go out and share music and Love with others and change the world into a better place through our sharing.
