KJ: HOW MANY TOTAL SONGS GET SUNG AT YOUR 4 HOUR SHOW ?

SINGERS: HOW MANY SONGS DO YOU SING NORMALLY AT YOU "FAVORITE" SHOW ?

I average 60-68. That is because we go wall-to-wall, no dance breaks. We have a lot of country, so not very many 5-minute dirges like I see so often in the big city. And we have negative time between tracks, i.e. if you count fades at outros our average transition time is zero.


3-6, depending on how early everyone else shows up. We stay 2-1/2 hours, usually.

WOW that's a lot of songs!!!

My current gig is still growing, but in the past the MOST I was able to get up to sing was about 50 ( this was using a jvc triple tray and cdgs)

Only had 1 show, so far, but I just checked the history on my hosting program from that show, and I had 43 songs sung in 3hr 45 min show. Thought I did pretty good for my first night, but I guess I've still got a ways to go. I also had a few glitches here and there. But I must say that everybody seemed pleased, and had NO complaints.

Just checked last Saturday's history on Compuhost. We sang from 9pm to 1:30 am, had 18 total singer, 3 dance breaks and sang 69 songs averaging one song every 4.5 minutes. I'm pretty happy with that.

The question was average ... hmmm ...

I'd say around 50-55 if starting right at 9 and ending right at 1. 240 minutes. That's an average of about 4½ minutes per singer.

For someone who's pushing 65 songs a show, they're averaging just over 3½ minutes for each singer in a 240 minute (4 hours) show. That's getting them up, getting song started, switching singers, etc. A KJ with this kind of average could sell a best-selling book on efficiency. Most songs I see average around 4 minutes a piece.

Croak, I agree 60-68 songs is a fast moving show ! I can see it happening if the singers are trained to GET right up and no filler or transition music is played as MKCY mentioned ..KUDOS to him as I'm sure the singers appreciate all the songs.

at five minutes a song, in a four hour rotation, that averages 48 songs.

Some songs are simple, short and about three mins. A LOT of SC songs are five minutes or longer.

I average 4-20 seconds of filler between each singer... I announce who's on deck, and they get up when I call them up. While the other song is fading out. Once the singer is handed the mic, I start their song with the lead in music. I'm a little careful, cause some songs have VERY few seconds of lead in music and it goes right into the vocals. "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" immediately comes to mind. 1 beat and vocals start.

We are country, as I tried to say. Lots of oldies too. We get a fair number of 4-minute-plus songs, but we get lots of 2:30 ones too. Most are 3-4 minutes. Songs like Hotel California, nominally 6:30, are really 4:30 songs if you fade the outro.

And yes, we have the singers trained. Compuhost helps with that as they know they are next. At the show that routinely pushes 65 songs per show we use wireless mics as well as wired, and the people pass them around and people are prepared before the last song ends.

We also run a full four hours and sometimes a bit more, starting at 8:45 and ending at 1:05 (sometimes later).

Well ya know, I totally screwed the pooch on that calculation. Looking at compuhost history by date, I realised I'd included the last hour and a half from friday's show.

I apologise fot that sillyness... in reality it was closer to 52 songs if my memory serves correctly... trying to mentally filter which singers were at which bar those two nights. Ack!

I run from 9 to 2:15 most nights and get in around 70 usually. The room tends newer non-country and not much of that material is under four minutes long.

What glitches Rosario?

At my favourite show I sing an average of 6-10 songs. It's a show that starts at 8:00 and it doesn't really get busy until 10:00. So it's me and a handfull in the short rotation until it reaches double digits.

I was using the laptop that doesn't have enough RAM, so every now and then, it would "stick", and not let me click on anything, then I would click on the blue line at the bottom of the screen, and the mouse would work again. Don't ask me why, I don't have a clue. Also, sometimes I would cue up a song and the screen would come up saying that it could not find the song, so I would have to try it again. Also had lagging lyrics, WONDERFUL, had THREE other kjs IN THE HOUSE, really had the pressure on, but I got through it. NOTHING I could do about the lagging lyrics, but everyone seemed to be pleased. SOLUTION: I NOW HAVE A BRAND NEW LAPTOP, which I am getting ready for my OPENING NIGHT February 28th (Mardi Gras In Wisconsin). I'm HOPING that the new laptop will take care of the "glitches". I'll let you know as soon as I have it loaded, and connected to everything. Thanks for asking ripman.

Most I've done is around 70 in an evening but that was a really busy night. Average is about 50. The Pub's got a good reputation now of getting singers up quickly. Nothing worse than,as a customer,going to a bar and listening to the host singing his greatest hits and not getting through his request slips

Depending on the length of songs & how quickly people get up to the stage - I also fade outros - no point in having wasted singing time IMO - I can usually avg between 60-70 singers (songs not necessarily the amount of singers) in a 4 hour period. If they are doing longer songs, a little less, shorter songs a little more.
This is where I miss running discs, I would always have the song cued up past all screen credits, this would usually add enough time to get 1-2 more singers per evening.

doesn't Hoster allow you to advance the song in the 2ndary player to the point it's sitting waiting for you to press the "fade" option from one player to the other?

I love that about clubdjpro. I can play a 2nd player and advance it to where I want it to be, press pause, and wait for the time to either manually fade it from player A to B or let it automatically do it. Since I build my own singer screens, I usually have them on the Player B while all karaoke songs are enqueud on the Player A side.

I did this also with winamp... just one song after another.

If anything, when I went computer, I actually got faster! ! Even with the triple tray, it just seemed to be that much faster!

I average between 60-70 songs per night. On slow nights it's only 12 singers with busy nights going around 25-30 up to my top night of 36 singers in a single rotation who all sang.

The average number of songs is 4 for folks who show up when I start and 2 for everyone who joins in the rotation later. The first hour generally has a rotation and a half in it and smart folks know they can get 2 songs in the first hour if they are there when I start.

At my 3 hr Sunday show I'm averaging around 43-ish songs and on my Thursday 4 hour show roughly 64-ish.
We play no filler and MOST of the singers are trained to come up right away. I will not wait for them, though. If they aren't ready, I skip to the next and call them up right after. It's rare that I have to do that, though. Usually it's only because they are in the bathroom. Even the smokers hold off if they know their turn is coming up.
No filler music, just get em as fast as possible and the vibe carries on. I use the time between to make announcements and/or a little fun banter.
