So long as you purchased the karaoke track, is there anything wrong with "enhancing" it with say extra audio clips? Here's my idea.
1. Edit Superfreak so that when at the end of the bass riff, there's an audio clip that says, "I'm Rick James (@$%!)!"
2. Insert a clip into Don't fear the reaper of Christopher Walken saying, "I gotta have more cowbell!"
3. Creating a cdg for the instrumental to the Team America song that I purchased at selectatrack.com. America (@$%!) Yeah!
I think it would be quite funny and a bit unexpected from what people are normally expecting to hear. Opinions?

I don't know why you would do that instead of owerlaying. You can use the "Audio Bits" on Compuhost to do just that. Of course you have to pull the trigger at the right time, but it isn't going to be funny forever.

In theory, you should be able to edit in the clip using free software like audacity ( http://audacity.sourceforge.net), but that would have no effect on the graphics portion of the song, and I do not know if editing the mp3 would ruin the integrity of the set or not.

I would hope that you would only be making these edits for a song that you would personally be singing. I wouldn't want to be singing a song and be surprised by what you find to be funny. I have done some editing on some songs where the graphics don't come up on the screen quickly enough. I just add a second or so of silence to the beginning of the mp3 track which makes the lyrics come up a little earlier than normal but it's better than coming up a second or two after you should have sung the words. Better early than late in my opinion.
I've also created some CDG files for karaoke mp3's that I bought from i-tunes. I don't see where there would be a problem using them. I mean, who is really out there checking?

If you are just overlaying audio it would not affect the synch of the cdg file.
But as Mckyj57 stated these things are only funny a few times...probably better ways to achieve these than editing the audio file.

You really don't want't be doing that - it will get tiresome VERY quick. Why not just assign the sound to a button in Compuhost?

Why just not do it at all? (See my response in the other thread about hosting not being about the KJ but the singers).

I would love to have a bit, "I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell"..... anyone?
I've got a couple that I do.... I've got the Genie (from Aladdin) saying "goodbye now goodbye" etc. for when its last call... always gets a laugh.
I've got Matt LaBlanc, "So, ah, How you doin'" for cute chicks
Arnold, "I'll be back"
Homer Simpson, "Doh!"
and a few others... every now and again, its good to have those on hand... but don't over do it... .

Getting a little laugh, at the appropriate moment doesn't take anything away from a performance. Making people laugh is a gift from God.
Some KJs can go overboard with their toys , that's where the hosting skill comes in.

This one would be at the expense of the singer though. Unless as host you are doing it to yourself... a little self-deprecating humor thrown in.

I don't have CompuHost. I'm using ClubDJ Pro. One thing I like about ClubDJ Pro is you can add text to the video. So for certain singers, I could add text at appropriate points in the song (not while they're singing the words) like, "Great job!" "You're nailing it!" "Smile and wave to your adoring fans!". Stuff that makes the singer hopefully smile and feel good about themselves and better connect with the audience.
I agree that deprication is reserved for myself or in some rare instances very close personal friends who I know wouldn't be offended. Even then, I'd still be easier on them than myself.
My thought on karaoke has always been it's like the Special Olympics. It's really for the performer and not so much the audience. As such, it's my role to be that encouraging coach at the finish line that gives them high-fives and hugs regardless.

Are there any players out there that change the speed of the track? I have Karaoke Sound Tools on my computer but I haven't figured out how to speed up a karaoke track and reburn it with the lyrics correctly up to speed as well, so if I want a song played a little faster, I just make sure its a song I know all the words to.

With Winamp play a song, right click on the cdg screen, select config, change the drift factor from 1 to 1.00466..

I know that CompuHost and Winamp/Pacemaker have that capability in the computer/software realm. (I am not sure what you mean by "player".)

By player, I meant either a CD+G player or karaoke software for computer. Whichever gets the job done. Thanks for the suggestions though. I'll look into that.

That's what a player is to me. But some people would be surprised if I didn't assume "CDG disk player".

I tried that and I couldn't see a place to change the drift factor. Not even sure what it is? Maybe it has something to do with me using a much older version of winamp?

This is a bad idea. If I went to a show where the KJ edited songs to say something stupid, or an atta boy written on the screen, you can be sure I won't be back. Neither of these ideas is an enhancement. Concentrate on providing a quality show instead of gimmicks. Save the comedy for comedians.

As said above - get your quality and quantity above gimmickery!
