Some hosting software limits installation to one computer and then provides a dongle to access it.
Does anyone know of a reason why the following couldn't work to allow multiple installations of said software?

Which software are you referring to? The software I use does not limit installation to one computer, in fact that is one of the reasons I like the dongle method. I have the software installed on 3 computers right now, and plan to install it on a new computer I should receive soon. All I have to do is move the dongle to any of the computers to run them unrestricted. Prevents having to apply and wait for new unlock codes as is necessary with lots of online software products.

Well, Compuhost for one! Maybe I mispoke when I said it can only be installed on one Computer, but the requirement of a Dongle effectively limits it use to one computer at a time!

Compuhost here also, and you're correct. Their license expicitly limits the use to one computer at a time. If you're accustom to reading the EULA's you agree to while installing software, you'd know that this provision is found in 99% of ALL commercial applications. Some applications offer a multi-use license (and charge heavily for it!), but most licenses are single use.

So is the goal that you are talking about here, that may be served by this product, multi-gigging?

I don't get this thread...
You are talking about using ONE compuhost license on MANY machines at the same time?

I have a desktop computer that I do my work on for my shows. I have my show laptop computer. I have my kiosk desktop that goes to my shows, as well. And my wife's 9" (whatever they call it these days) computer also goes to the shows.
Each of those computers have my entire data base on them and if nothing else, THEY MUST BE KEPT IN SYNC in that regard. And, sometimes, I have the computers at home side by side in order to easily compare data
Until recently, I was using S&D, for my Hosting and other related tasks. With a licensed version on my laptop. The other computers have demo versions on them which leaves all of them useless as to hosting a show.
I recently purchased RoxBox, which I am quite happy with. However, I was happy with S&D until my business partner turned me onto the benefits of RoxBox. If I determined that Compuhost, which has be lauded here by some, could serve my needs in the same fashion...if i could use it as I am used to doing with S&D, not being limited to opening and running the software on one machine at a time in my home... I was considering getting a trial version of Compuhost. The last thing I want is to be dealing with 3 different packages!!!
But... please forget my question. I started the thread by stating I was trying to overcome an inherent limitation of some software. Obviously you're too concerned about playing cop/lawyer and whatever else you'd rather do than to help someone out! And if what I am intending to do is illegal.... who is the first that is sinless when it comes to any type of copyright infringement? Even lifting a passage from some reference book when you were back in school?
MODERATOR PLEASE CLOSE THIS THREAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm neither playing cop, nor lawyer. I'm trying to ascertain exactly what you want to do.
If what you want to do is illegal, that's not my problem. It's sorta yours. In so far as, it means you have to dance around the actual question.
Don't take this aggressively - I'm just saying: If you can't ask the actual question - it's gonna be hard to give you an actual answer.
So - let me assume that Yes - you do want to circumvent the Compuhost dongle somehow... Nobody has achieved it.

When posting a reply, please don't jump into conclusion. This is the result of such action.
Thread lock as requested by OP
