There Is a KJ near where I live that makes recording of the singers if they want it. He seems to do it effortlessly. And I was wondering if there is special software that makes the task easier then trying to sync all the mixer controls for recording back to computer or CD drive.

We have a Tascam CD burner in our rig. It is VERY simple to use - start song, have burner on 'record' already - press play. CD records, press 'pause' at end of song (or "stop" if it is their last song). At the end of the recording session, you have to finalize it, takes 1:05 or so. Very good quality recording. Older Tascams sell for around $250 or so...not cheap, but if you ever have a need to burn CDs, they are simple to use and produce very good quality. (I know, more expensive than most people want -- but I'm an equipment addict ... can't help it...)

Disclaimer: Do not offer to do this for people unless it is their own music they bring to you; they must understand they cannot sell the CD...however, they do make great gifts for elderly relatives, LOL. You also cannot sell any CD you record. These burns are for personal use only. I recommend only burning for people who are decent singers - you can quickly turn a questionably talented singer into a nonsinger if they hear how they really sound!

OKAY, COME ON YOU DIRTY ROTTEN COPPERS...COME GIT ME...ILLICIT CD BURNER THAT I AM...COME ON, YOU KNOW YA WANNA....

I use Audacity on a separate computer & email the singers a link to a private folder on my website that only they can access - then when they sing & record, I just add it to their folder. This way I don't have to keep stocked up on blank cd's & get their contact info at the same time for my email/myspace lists.

Lonman: 100% the best way to market your self - push people to the site to get their pics/music. I am looking at doing similar.

As it currently stands, my setup is ready to record to MiniDisk (don't laugh - I still say it's a great format). I could then drump to CD after a gig or such.

The same computer that you use for hosting can also handle recording at the same time.

Jian: I would love to be doing that - but for some reason, whenever I loop from the mixer back to the soundcard (REC-OUT to ext Soundblaster LINE-IN) - the quality of my output goes terrible.

I will look at resolving this on my new system.

Also, does a device exist: 19" rack mountable MP3 recorder. Takes line-in and records to memory card or such?

What do you actually mean when you say the quality of the output is terrible?
You may want to check your sound card line-input by recording from other external source. If that source give a good recording, then check your output from mixer. I am sure your mixer have other line level out put that you may want to use.

Fantastic idea for generating site traffic!

Do you have an automated system for that?

Jian: OK, hard to explain...

If I am not recording, the system soudns as it should.

If I am recording, even the mixer output through the amp and speakers goes REALLY, crackly, distorted.

Possibly due to USB bandwidth?

For heavy recording a computer has to have the speed, memory and hard drive space. The OS should be on it's own drive. I can use Roxbox and Sonar at the same time with no problems at recording sessions but sometimes after awhile have to reboot to free up resources again. I have recorded every singer at a show and the host didnt even know it because there was no ill effects.

Without a detailed account I can record live 3 ways. Vocal only where the singer can later mix their own. Bare with no EFX or out of the mixer with full EFX. I can put them on a flash drive or I like the idea of putting them on the web site.

USB Bandwidth shouldn't be an issue, as long as you have ONE path going OUT of the computer, and ONE path going in.

Most computers have a minimum of 2 to 4 usb connections.

For everything going out of the computer, you can hook up a usb hub (my old one had only 2 usb connections, and that was the default of the older motherboard), but I never had usb problems, as I used one for outgoing traffic, and one for in.

USB mice, keyboards and hard drives... INgoing.

USB connections to mixer, outgoing.

If you're recording, it would be on an INgoing connection.

Now, having said all that, I've not gone beyond the testing stages... as I have a supurb stand alone workstation that I rca out to from my amp/mixer. I could go with multiple channels (music one channel, mics another, add even more fx, multirecord options), but I record exactly how it comes out fo the mixer, and always been happy with the results!

No way. Even USB 1.1 can't possibly be overwhelmed by simple audio applications.

The reason I went from Hoster to Compuhost was the "record feature" and it is defintely worth it. We let all of our singers know that tomorrow when they get up they can go to our website and listen to last night's performances. We also video them as well and it really sets us apart from the competition down here.
It did take alot of trial and error getting the compuhost and computer settings to commingle together but the sound quality reproduction is great. I would recommend this feature to all.

Might consider adding a separate sound card just for recording. Audacity allows the option to pick & choose which sound card is used for playback & record.

Am tempted. As it stands, am already using an external soundcard for playback. In the VERY RARE occasion I'd want to record, I could just suffice with the onboard...

I had just bought an American Audio Pocket Record. It connects to my RCA record out of my mixer to 1/4 inch on the recorder. It list as $199, but I got it for $135.

http://www.adjaudio.com/product.asp?Pro ... t%20Record

You can use the internal storage, or as I have with a SD RAM card. I have only made one recording, of me singing with a ferver and highly congested. You can tell I am sick, but the recording is awsome, real high quality. I will get better recordings at my Saturday gig.

I was thinking of emailing the recordings to the person, but will see if I can easily do like listed above, and force them to get them from my website. I will have to see if it is easy to do with my GoDaddy website.

While it's certainly not that popular of a thing to do here anymore, i used to use an IKEY recorder to record their stuff directly to their own flash drive as an MP3 file.

It's just not something that most people here are interested in anymore.
