Hi Everyone

After helping someone out on Karaoke for a while now I am going it alone. I bought somone elses business which includes hundreds of discs etc which he had copied all songs onto a hard drive which is just what i wanted. Now I have downloaded the trial of Power Karaoke Professional (PKP) but have a hit a little problem. None of the songs on my hard drive have ID Tags completed so when I import my songs into PKP the Artist, Title, DiscID fields are blank and I only have the File field completed:
eg. H:\SF002\Michael Jackson - Black and White
Some of the songs dont even have the Artist and Title in the filename only 001.mp3, 002.mp3 etc
Now when I goto Add Singer / Song it wont search for any of my songs as it only lets me search Artist / Title / DiscID. This obviously is causing me a problem and I wondered if there is anyway to complete these IDTags without doing them manually as would take me forever or have I got to dump all those on the HD and start from scratch by ripping each CD to the HD?

Appreciate any advice anyone may have

Thanks

Mick

If you can find it, CDGautoname along with KJRO can help you name the files. or even MP3+GToolz should be able to do it as well.

since it's SOME of them, (this is the problem when you don't do it yourself, you inherit someone else's screwups!), I'd manually play them in winamp and add the ID tags.

I find old ones I converted every now and then that say track01... I just manually change them when they're enqueued!

This is also one of those reasons I waited a terribly long time before finally going computer... I wanted NO surpises like this... and if I find them, I fix them at home later.

take the hard drive out and hook it up to your other computer and fix them on your spare time!

Hey Mick,

Unfortunately, for the files that do not contain ID tags AND do not reference the information in the filename(s), you're out of luck! There is no magical process that an automated solution could use to determine the information without one of the two. Therefore your stuck with having to manually playback a portion of each track, at least enough to determine the Title and Artist, and hopefully also the brand since this is important to some of your singers.

It's a daunting task I know, but unfortunately unavoidable.

Good Luck

Unavoidable unless you are a programmer. If you are, and you had the disk name and track number, it would be possible to write a program that does it. I have such a program (in Perl), but it doesn't go to FreeDB, you do need to have a directory file. I used it for all the disks that didn't have entries at FreeDB.

Hi all

Thanks for your suggestions here, did think worse case scenario would be to start from scratch. Did a bit of searching last night and something i remember my friend mentioning before was Karaoke Song List Creator as it has a database already completed, anyone using this and think that is worth the money?

Mick

the one thing you need to be careful of with all these databases is that they are not always 100% right so no matter how you do it make sure you check the files with the file names once done.

Have you tried just importing the file names?
There is a check block on the import song page that needs to be unchecked to have it just import the file names. I think they even give you a option of the order in which they can be named this way you don't have to have the id's tagged.

For ScrewUps like that...
I use CDGFix. It displays a thumbnail of Each Song.
Quickly see the "Title Page"

Hi mate, yes I have tried that but came across another little problem, found a couple of CD´S where all i have for a filename is Track 1, 2 etc :(
Some of them I will rip myself, think as someone said when buying someone else you inherit their screwups.

That's probably because when the other guy ripped them the disc was not found on freedb or what ever site he was checking to find the file names and he just left it at track 1 etc.

If the disc you are ripping is not found and you do not change the names it will leave it that way

I have had to type in a lot of names as the discs were not always found.
