I've been to some shows where they have a blow up guitar and saxaphone, etc. People seem to have fun with those sometimes.

I was curious what other stuff you can add to a karaoke show to make it more fun for the crowd (especially after they have a few brews).

Sometimes I use little give-aways. Use them for different formats, trivia questions, drawings, etc. just for a change of pace. Sometimes I'll use zippered coconuts with my karaoke logo on them. Sometimes I'll use little refrigerator magnets with funny sayings, etc. It's just something for a change of pace, to get the audience more involved and having a good time. The other thing I usually do is have some "karaoke virgin" certificates available that I can just fill in on the spot. It takes them from being a "karaoke virgin" to a "karaoke s**t". Usually goes over well.

Personally, I don't want extra stuff at the karaoke shows I go to. A good song selection and good sound is all I need. People dancing around with hats and wigs and blow up instruments is just annoying to me.

One other thing I use is a "train whistle". Don't use it to be disruptive or annoying, but rather to add to certain songs. It's all part of the having fun and adding one more dimension to make it more fun for your followers and supporters. For re-invention: you probably would be annoyed at my shows, but my followers have a lot of fun. It's the whole entertainment thing, much more about having fun than everyone thinking they're professional singers.

I'll sometimes give away small items from Oriental Trading Co. or Dollar Store. For private parties, I'll bring much more and let people pick from a prize box for singing their first song. Also will offer to do games and contests if the client is interested. But in the bars, it's pretty much just straight ahead karaoke.
