I am building a second system and have the amp/mixer, mikes and the songs. I have decided to go computer on this one as well but am unsure what karaoke program to use as I don't have the budget for a new software. I have lisences for three programs and am unsure which one will be easy enough for a novice person to use. the three are Compuhost, RoxBox and Justkaraoke. Now this gig is karaoke dj so if I go with Justkaraoke I still need winamp to play dj filler music. mind you I could also hand over my dongle to the new person and let them use Compuhost while I use Just Karaoke for myself as The gig I would need a fill in at my regular venue for is probably only going to be karaoke only.

Rox would be the easiest for a newbie esp for kj/dj. Also you can encrypt your library so they cant steal it. Remember to have a back up!!!

Only because I am choosing between programs that I had already bought licenses for. HOster's license is so old and stuck to one computer, that no longer exists as it was parted out with the hard drive wiped that I didn't consider it. The latest version of hoster won't do zips anymore if I remember correctly.

I talked to Dan on MSN messenger before he posted. This is a secondary system for a new host. He lists 3 softwares and bear in mind he still needs one for his system. So actually I recommended saving compuhost for his system (Im not totally biased). The young people especially those still going to school picks up on any software in minutes so that is not the problem that it used to be. I trained a new host last night and he was running Roxbox in minutes.

For years in bars I have heard and engaged in the Ford Chevy, Winchester Savage arguments for all my life. It makes the world go round. If it wasnt for competition it would cost a lot more. That said if you were setting up a new system and you had these 3 softwares which one would you use for a new host? One feature Rox has is one can encrypt the library and they can not copy it. I made a recommendation according to experience and based upon ease of operation. Many kids have sat at my computer and turned into a host right before my eyes.

I still say that Comuhost and Hoster are excellent programs but Rox has some features that I need. Also I regard Frank as a friend and he is a fellow KJ down in the DFW area. Its like going to the little convience store across the street they are my friends and thats who I buy gas from. It is only human nature. I dont actively promote here but I will defend in a healthy manner. LOL

Perfect example of a company so paranoid that their own customers would rather not even consider the software they've already paid for than have to go through the trouble of being able to use it.... PLUS, the newest version DOES have problems with zip files and a whole host of other "glitches".... that's forced them to make a HUGE amount of bug fixes.... More than 1-per year that they've been in business (i.e. 40 years PLUS)

Plus, with their "internet only activation" I understand the owner HAS PURPOSELY disabled a customers activation code to "get their attention." Imagine what would happen if you needed to reload your software on a weekend (when they're closed)... you'd be screwed.

How does the encryption keep people from copying your hard drive. If they also have roxbox on their computer, can't they still use what they've copied? Just wondering. How would someone make a back up of their own hard drive if it was encrypted? I always thought it would be a great idea to have an option to need a password to be able to copy a folder or any file in a folder. A separate password to access or read a file but a different password to actually move it to another drive. That way you could let an employee use the drive to do a show without worrying about that employee copying your drive and then going into business for themselves with all of your music.

If you can read it, if you can view it, it can be copied. One way or another!

If I go the roxbox route, they would not have administartive activity on the computer. If I get help on locking out all output/input devices like usb ports, cd drive etc. under adminitrative section then they would not even be able to even copy the drive.

If those are the only choices , I've heard good things about COMPUHOST ?

I've been happy with my latest purhcase PCDJ PRO / KARMA
It touches all the bases without any of the FRILLS of Compuhost but at half the cost

Just my $.02

Even though a lot of you have chosen Compuhost, it is no longer in the running as the computer I am now looking at won't have enough resources to run it. In the area of the new laptop, cost is a factor and I found a laptop for under $200 before shipping. I'm almost more inclined to go with one of two I have found on ebay. If I go with either one of them then Compuhost might still be used.
The less I spend on the laptop means more I can spend on speakers.

if the resources are the problem, why not just do winamp with the plugins?

Works fine for lower end machines!

((knew I couldn't stay out of this discussion!))

No, don't sit on your hands. Typing with the nose leads to mispellings. Besides which Knightshow is right.

Because I want my hosts to have all the tools available to them and the only way to do that without a big frontend is autokdj. Which by the way I may end up going for my main machine so I can use the second as a kiosk.

Frank was the first to crack Cav's super cdg and make a converter for it. I dont think there are very many who could copy his encrypted music let alone a fill in KJ.

1:they can copy it, they just can't play it.
2:the music is tied to the computer that the particular program is on. So if they copy it, they still can't play it.
3: you back it up before encripting it. My second set is already backed up when I imported it.
