Everyone always asks..What is the BEST CDG brand? So I was thinking....What makes a great CDG ...track? Is it the one that sounds EXACTLY like the original or one that sounds ALMOST like the orignal but the mix might be a little different..Maybe a heavier bass line...more pronounced drum beat .....louder guitar solo?........ I think that a New Brand of CDG should be produced ...One that has EXCELLANT SOUND QUALITY like a SC or PHM but takes a little liberty with the song ...sort of like a GREAT COVER BAND ...this way it would sound more like a LIVE PERFORMANCE ...... I know that there are songs produced that are off of LIVE ALBUMS and they are always a welcome treat to the studio version ..if done right (except FIENDS IN LOW PLACES)
Whats your thoughts......

To me a good karaoke track is one that sounds as close to the original artist as possible, and avoids the things that I feel make for a BAD karaoke track such as:

Midi sounding music
That stupid flute that plays the melody line
bad swipes
incorrect or missing lyrics
lousy background singers
canned laughter/cheering

I do agree (as a music geek) that your idea sounds kinda cool, but I get enough complaints as it is from people who say that certain versions of songs they sing aren't "right."

I am the first to complain about that annoyingly awful melody line. However, they do have a valid purpose. We have all seen singers select songs that they really do not know at all. The only part of the melody they really know is the chorus. In this instance, the melody line helps them struggle through the song by giving them cues as to how to sing the song. Sometimes (infrequently) they catch on by the second or third verse. Of course, if you know the song you curse the manufacturer for ruining the track.

...and thus the key to being a good singer. Pick a song you know and one that is right for your voice. I can't do Willy Nelson, but I sure can kick out Simply Red. It is all about doing what works for your vocal range.

Of course, the people you are talking about are the ones that aren't really there to sing. They are usually the ones just drinking in the bar and then later on in the night when they had a bit of the liguid courage, they hop up and because they have heard a song on the radio, think they know it.

That's ok though, it is all about having fun and I will chear them on even though they do horrible, just because they had the guts to get up there.

Mike kind of hits the nail on the head here.

The only thing that I can add is, regarding background singers, some in the chorus are cool if they sound decent (kind of Mike's point).

Also I like the "count down" on some songs if you're not exactly sure when they start. Some do it by number, some have the "bar" or "dot" count down. That is helpful.

I'm also in agreement with Mike, I'd like the song I'm singing to have the background and intrumentals as close to the original song as possible.
