My venue is a bar and restaurant. I am set up in the dining area, seperated by the entrance hall, or foyer consisting of a couple of tables, then the bar. My problem, is that I run a NO SMOKING venue, hence the dining room which is very large, better than the bar area. The bar is SMOKING, so alot of my singers go into the bar to drink, and smoke. NOW, here is where the technical question comes in. I would like to have a speaker IN the bar, I do have Eon 15's that I could piggyback off of and run a third speaker into the bar, but then I would have to run the cord UP, and around the ceiling which is about 15' high. Is there ANY type of WIRELESS powered speaker that has a transmitter that can be plugged into the monitor jack of a mixer?
Not looking to spend htousands of dollars, just wondering how everyone else handles this type of problem. Whenever a singer is in the bar, they can't hear when I announce their turn to sing. I figured that a speaker in the bar would be the perfect solution. Not only could they hear the announcements, but could also hear the karaoke. Any ideas???

I have the same situation and I use a long TRS cable and put a 1/4 inch plug on it We tried running piggyback but prefer more control over the volume. Right now we drive it with AUX 2 out.

To drive a balanced input you hook up pin 3 to the send and ground pin 2 return to the shield.

Go to x10.com they have an audio/video sender for 50 bucks. You can hook the receiver to a tv or split the signal with audio rca connectors to active speakers, or to a cheap amp with passives.....heck, you could even use an old stereo amp/receiver/speakers.

Johnny, I looked at the X10, looks like something that could be a possibility. Now, here's the real technical question. Could something like the X10 receive, and handle the audio if I plugged the red and white RCA to 1/4" coming out of my monitor outputs on my mixer? Then, I could hook the receiver to the stereo in the bar, since it isn't being used while karaoke is going on in the place, then the announcements, AND the karaoke would be run through his stereo system. Does this sound feasible or is there some reason that it wouldn't work? Can it handle the power coming out of the mixer? Thanks, Johnny.

I don't think you are going to be happy with the quality of signal on the X10 unit. ( I own two of them.)

I would just run a wire.

I use the x10 for wireless video--works great for that, but never tried it with audio.
Also the transmitter and reciever should be "line of site" for best results. That might be an issue if your speaker is going to be in another room.
I agree, your best bet is to run wire (cable).

Thanks m1532, looks like something very similar to what Johnny mentioned. I think I'll have to call, or email both of these places, and put the question to them about the monitor out on my mixer to the signal in on the transmitter, and if that works, audio out from the receiver to the bar stereo, probably put it into the dvd in, it won't know what the audio is REALLY coming from, just that it's coming from the transmitter. Sounds like a plan to me! I'll let you guys know what happens. Thanks, and anyone else that has any suggestions, I'm still interested.

Here is what we use for wireless speakers.

http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... sku=631024

I use powered speakers so the individual volumes can be set.

If you daisy chan off one speaker it will change the amount of wattage going to each spear and in your main room your left and right speakers will be different volmunes. If they as you to turn it down in the bar you have to turn down your daisy chaned speaker even more.

Liquiddye, thanks for the suggestion, as I went to the web site, I scrolled down and found what I think will be the PERFECT answer. A wireless PA system. They had a Nady 20w with the whole works, mics included for 119.00. I went to some other web sites and saw a Hisonic, and also an Audio 2000 model for the same price. Now I just have to figure which is the best brand. Thanks, any suggestions?

Liquiddye, just go to the link that you posted for me, then scroll down to the WA wireless PA system, made by Nady for 119.99, but when you click on it, it comes up at 124.99. Since then, I've found several other brands in that price range.

I think you may be confusing a small portable pa with a wireless microphone for a wireless pa. Only the microphone is wireless on this one, and perhaps it can be battery powered, but if you are going to plug another source into it, you are back to using cables. I don't think this will solve your problem.

Of course, if you are strictly going to be using it to announce names, and not have anything else running through it, it might work ok. Not sure if you are going to have line-of-site or quality issues with a unit at this price point, however.

The PA system plugs into the ac outlet, in the bar area, and I keep the mic in the dining area, When a singer is in the bar (smoking area), and it's their turn, I can turn on the mic, and call them. If I'm not mistaken, the PA also has an audio out, if so, I can plug it into the stereo receiver in the bar and get more volume. At least this is the plan. The unit is rated for 100ft, I'll only be half that distance.

Is providing music to the bar area required ? Or just the announceement you need ?

Just need the announcement. When singers leave the dining area (non smoking), where I'm set up, and go into the bar (smoking area), I always have to yell into the mic to get them, which I'm sure annoys the other singers in the dining room. It's either that, or my girlfriend (co-host) has to go into the bar, hunt them down, well, you get the picture. So, I thought it would be alot easier if I had a way to get the announcement into the bar. I thought of more speakers, (way to costly), then I got some suggestions here about some other systems, but when I saw the portable PA (by mistake), I thought it would be perfect. Any thoughts?

Wouldn't it be better to something cheap like a Powered EON in the bar and hook a wireless to it so you can have your mix in the bar? It would be a good investment and only cost you about $700.

Is the place you are working that big that they can't hear you in the bar or is there walls? Maybe if the bar is big enough you can move the show to the bar and not have to buy anything.

Liquiddye, I'm using "CHEAP" Eon 15 G2's for the rest of my equipment, and didn't think it was worth the extra MEASLEY $700.00, just so the people could hear me call them up to sing. Not counting the hassle of running speaker cables around the walls, and into the bar. The dining area is 3 times the size of the bar area, but is seperated from the bar area by the main entrance room. If you came in the main entrance, you can go right, to the bar, or left, to the dining room. The music can be heard in the bar, but as everybody knows, the louder I play the music, the louder people will talk. Since the bar area is smaller, the noise from outside the bar seems lower than the people talking, so UNLESS they're listening for their name to be called, they're not paying attention to what's coming from the other room. It's kind of like having a jukebox playing, and you're trying to get someone's attention. I personally don't think it's worth that much money, AND effort just to get someone's attention. If I wanted to expand my system, THEN I would get a couple more "CHEAP" speakers.

Thanks,

Rosario

Also I forgot to mention, we are a smoke-free karaoke business. I think we're the first in our area. That's another reason we don't set up in the bar area, (besides being too small).
