Well I started ripping all my discs with CDGrip and labeling with FastTracks. My Compuhost should be here today. I have been foolin with the trial version for about a week now. I haven't tried yet but will I be able to just pop a disc in my computer and play straight from compuhost. You know just in case somebody brings their own.
Man it takes a while to rip 1600 songs. I know it's not a lot, but just starting out, and at one time it's a chore. The compuhost seems easy enough to work. I was just wondering about using a disc.

There is a cdg rip that comes with compuhost that would allow you to rip a customer cd. However, I personally have had issues with compuhost slowing downa bit when ripping those cd's and the lyrics lagging, etc. I will say that others have encountered no problems so it may be my computer. Anyways I bought a separate cdg burner that does this for me now.

Not to mention it's illegal to rip a customer cd as you do not own the disc. Doesn't matter that they said it's ok or not or you are only using it for that person only.

From what I understand CH does not allow you to just pop in a cd & play a track from a customer disc. This is where the separate player for customer disc topic comes into play.

Hey guys I meant use compuhost to play their disc. Not rip it. I guess I wasn't clear, if someone brings their own disc can I play it on compuhost or do I have to have separate player?

You need a separate player. Compuhost has a way to play outside discs via an outside player and not lose the scroller but will not directly play the disc. Their reasoning is that cdroms are too fragile for playing discs. Granted I have never had anyone bring their discs to my gig so I don't have any experience with it at all. Just know that the outside player and a video capture device is needed to play an outside disc.

So even though I have my compuhost coming in the mail today. I'll still have to have my player setup too. I guess I'll have to run a A/B switch or something too for my video. Man this sucks. I thought when I finally got all my music ripped to my hard drive I would be good to go with just my laptop.

You will be good to go, as far as playing all of the cdgs that are on your laptop. In order to play someone elses disc, there is an internal/external button that you will have to hit for EXTERNAL player. You will also need a video capture device in order for your lyrics (from your player) to show on the screen WITH the scroller still on the screen. I run the audio directly into my mixer. I don't think you will be sorry you purchased Compuhost, once you use it for a show. It has alot of features that make hosting much easier.
