Hi all

I'm using Sax n Dottys with 2nd screen for singers lyrics no problem.

What I'm now wanting to do is when it's quiet say at start of night while I'm playing filler I want to use the singer screen (2nd screen which the audience can see) for other uses such as announcements, forthcoming events etc.

I think this should be easy but I can't for the life of me think how to do it.

Does anyone know of any software (pref free or £20 at most) which will do this ?

Just basically to be able to put up text a bit like the CDG's but pictures and/or videos would be a bonus.

I've messed about with something called "WorshipPro" which is for church hymn singing. I suppose like church karaoke ! but it's not very good and runs out in 30 days.

Any help gratefully recd

The latest version of sax and dotty has a display to show next singer but you can also have a message on that ,so it runs along the screen ,just save your messages as text files then add in which one you want to see.
if you dont have it get the trial of the latest version.

I did a google for second monitor screensavers a couple years ago.

My buddy still uses that for ads..

I'll call him and ask what it was I found for him. (It was free too)

(I don't use it)

Here is what I do...

I make adverts in Photoshop.
I drop them into a slideshow in IrfanView
I export the sildeshow as an EXE
This can be displayed on any monitor with the right command parameters.

Thanks guys for the help.

I've had a look at both the Donation thing and the Irfanview one and it's probably gonna take me some time to get my head round either of them.

But, Zonerc, I do have the latest version of S & D and yes your right, it does have that facility which you mention. It's just that I've never really exploited it but I will do now - thanks for reminding me.

However what did you mean when you said you can save messages as TEXT files ?
Not sure how to do this

type what ever message you want to display in the bar on the audience screen page then copy and paste in to a text pages ,or type directly into the text doc ,beware there is a limit to the number of letter but cant remember how many off the top of my head.
make as many messages as you want then just copy and paste which ever message in the bar you want to display.
when someone as sang you will have to click cnp next to options and history to cancel next singer or last so it displays the message.

Does the singer display revert back to the desktop after a song is done? If not can you set it to do so? If yes, then I agree with the simple slideshow using Windows movie maker & then play back with Media Player. Make your ads, create the slideshow & play/repeat. Expand the slideshow on the second screen & when the song starts, the lyrics screen will pop on top. When the song is over, lyrics screen goes off & the ads are playing in the background.
I do this currently with Hoster having a slideshow of singers from past to present playing.

Thanks again zonerc.

Yes I'm sure we can do what you suggest with S & D. I'll first have to get to grips with creating the page/pages to start with but thanks for that

one other thing you can only have the message top or bottom on the page and i was displaying on a projector screen which wasnt set up very well so couldnt see it,so what i did set some picture or business advert picture then shrink the screen with the messages tape down to just the the bar then you can put it where you want on the screen.

Any photo editing software can create the pics to add. Take pics of the bar staff with a Tip Your Staff text in nice bold letter. Any drink specials, see if you can get a picture of that drink, get a picture of someone singing with the nights you do karaoke, etc. It's endless & looks a lot nicer than just a little scrolling marquee at the bottom of the screen IMO at least.

I don't, I create a slideshow in movie maker & the publish to a video file that then gets played in a loop via Media Player set to the singers/audience screen so it always shows when we are in between songs.

With my Hosting software (CompuHost), i'd use the builtin Slide Show feature. Any of the 45 Videobit buttons can be configured to display a continous slide show presentation. It can be left on during the entire show since it displays behiond the lyrics. Between performances the slides will continue to cycle, great for multiple advertisements etc.

WOW Lonnie

I've just had a quick play with Windows Movie Maker.

It's a fantastic piece of kit !! and I didn't even know I had it.

Oh well - all in the learning process I suppose and something else to spend many hours with instead of the decorating I'm supposed to be doing.

If you don't mind going retro with your software Sacks-O-Nuts hoster had exactly the feature you described. You can add text, crop a picture etc. on the fly. You can even associate a particular picture audio or video clip with a singer. It's winamp based and I believe S&D's still is also. Two major problems with it are that it won't work with zipped files under Vista and it is obsolete and off the market so there is no support for it at all. However, you can still download the last version at http://www.freewebs.com/sacksonuts . It's officallly beg-ware but I happen to know the guy won't mind if you don't register.
